Best deal on a hollow body P90 guitar?

Have some GAS for a hollow body electric equipped with some P90 style pickups.

What are your guys recommendation for the best bang for the buck?

Not looking to spend a fortune, just something to have some fun with.

If i were you id go with a epiphone dot studio, its a good guitar for the money, and gibson makes a humbucker called p-94 or something but its a p90 sound and you don't have to make any adjustments to the guitar that way.

Check out the PRS SE soapbar semihollow. Great bang for the buck.

Re: Best deal on a hollow body P90 guitar?

The PRS SE is interesting, but not really the "style" of guitar I'm looking for? I envision something like a DOT or Gretch style guitar?

Does Gretch make anything reasonably priced that is decent?

I got my Casino for a tad over $500, not a bad deal at all...the dots are cheaper, but I've only ever seen them with HBs in them.

Re: Best deal on a hollow body P90 guitar?

Is buying used an option?
Used Hamer guitars seem to go for silly cheap prices in the US, how about an Artist P90? Seriously nice guitars, although they're semi's rather than fully hollow. I know you're in Canada but US Ebay might be a good option?

If thats still too pricey Reverend do some lovely P90 equipped guitars...

Reverend Guitars

I know you mentioned Gretsch as well, check out their Electromatic range for some decent priced hollow bodies.

Personally, I want one of these, though I think it's considered a full hollow (with no holes):

For less than half the price, though, there's this one too:

Is there an online retailer for Reverend guitars? What sort of price range are they at?

Re: Best deal on a hollow body P90 guitar?

I'd go for one of them Godin 5th avenue kingpins!

Fully hollow, one p-90 at the neck (who needs a bridge pickup?) and it comes in a beautiful ebony finish. All for under 700.00 taboot.

Ahh.. yes, Godins. Such under-appreciated guitars that even I forgot about them. Made right here in North America to boot!

Actually, the word 'screaming' has me thinking!
If you're (the OP, toogy) after a full hollow body a good try out would be in order before you hand over your money.
I played a nice Gretsch anniversary, one of the two tone green ones, and it did not like dirt at all. Sounded lovely clean, really nice in fact, but it did'nt respond well to even moderate drive, and vibrated like an accoustic feeding back, you know when the strings actually vibrate and you get that deep howl like a whale farting. Its something to consider and I'm sure something that varies from one model to the next but as always, try before you buy!

$309.00 dollars out the door...

XV-910 Semi Hollowbody Alnico P90 Dogears Trapeze Tailpiece

Riot Act:

Quote:
The XV-910 takes our gorgeous XV-900, adds a pair of critically acclaimed GFS Alnico P90 Dogears with classic "Casino" style metal covers. We've incorporated a classic "Diamond" trapeze tailpiece, giving the guitar extraordinary acoustic volume and a truly vintage feel. With it's period-correct laminated maple construction and solid maple center section, the 910 is ready to rock.

Each XV-910 features medium Jumbo nickel-Silver frets- leveled, hand crowned and dressed at the factory for great playability. We've upgraded the tuning machines, hardware and electronics so you won't have to.

The Mother-of-Pearl Xaviere logo nicely compliments the elegant Stairstep headstock. 22 perfectly crowned frets, triple bound body top and back, bound rosewood fingerboard and classic Xaviere slotted diamond inlays compliment the classic look. The twin F holes are neatly bound, and we've included a hand cut graphite nut for ultimate tuning stability.

What about the Epiphone Alleykat? I know it's doesn't have P90s, but it seems pretty cool with the mini humbucker in the neck position.

They're selling this one...

Buy Epiphone WildKat Ltd Electric Guitar | Semi-Hollow and Hollow Body Electric Guitars | Musician's Friend

Looks cool...but it is 200 dollars more vs. that Xaviere and a 100 dollars more vs. that Douglas...

A lot of folks like their Les Paul copies (There's a bit of correspondence about 'em in the "Other Les Pauls" section). I haven't heard anything directly about those archtops...but if they're like the LP copies...you should be good!

Re: Best deal on a hollow body P90 guitar?

I had a Epi Wildkat for awhile. Really nice guitar for the money but I picked it up used. I wouldn't pay the new price for it. Mine needed the pots replace but other than that it was perfect. Lotta bite lotta honk.
