Re: Zachary Guitars... Anyone?

He sounds like a manipulative, cry baby, asshole, jerk off - that never got to let go of a few certain very small incidences in his youth/adulthood. Boohoo, the sales guy was having a bad day and didn't feel like going to the way back of the storage room to get the ladder to get the Bich. That's not the end of the world, he's just being a lazy prick.

Above is an original song, "Defeat". (I knew nothing about mixing when I recorded this song... )

i beg to differ...if someone custom orders a stringed instrument and has issues such as the ones posted below and has THAT reaction to it then yes he is a criminal plain and simple...he has ripped someone off and is completely unwilling to fix it in any way. that is the definition of rip off. he produced a sub par unplayable paperweight with 50% unusable frets and feels that its not his problem. if gibson did this to one of us we'd be going batshit over it.

This may have do with the fact that the strings are almost two years old, or the fact that there's some very annoying fret buzz along the bottom four strings, in addition to the open G. When I mentioned this to Alex, he got very defensive and said that fret buzz is normal because you have "metal on metal." Also, the access to the upper frets is very limited. In fact, basically everything above the 17th fret is unplayable. This issue miffs me the most. People don't just have frets to look at, after all.

I asked Alex if he would take a return, but to no avail.

I saw this and I had to clear a few things up. First of all, it wasn't a custom guitar. In fact, Alex is very against custom guitars and stopped making them for people. Second of all, as I stated in the original thread, I did get the problems with the guitar fixed and I love it now. I haven't even touched my Les Paul in almost six months because it's a totally inferior instrument. I think that the problems were a result of the strings being two years old and the neck bowing back in the mail. It shipped early winter after all, from Michigan to Minnesota. I'm also very perfectionistic, so other people might not have noticed the problems I did.

That being said, if the tech did something to the pickups, I'd have no way of knowing, and I also can't agree with Alex's customer service. Even though things turned out great me, I can't wholeheartedly recommend Zachary Guitars to anyone for those reasons. I can however recommend his strings, which I've never had a bad experience with. They're especially vital if you play an extended range and/or short scale instrument.

P.S. I did purchase a defective Gibson Les Paul once with problems worse than the Zachary. Maybe I should post about it and see if people go batshit.

I don't get the draw either. Ugly guitars built by a megalomaniac.

Much of his hardware is re-manufactured according to his specs such as aluminum tailpieces, strap knobs, re-designed Tele control plates, Trems and trem arms, bigsbys...the list goes on. He has a nut material he won't reveal but claims that his guitars don't go out of tune and proves it with vids and sound files.

No guitar is made twice, you cannot spec. a guitar to him. He builds what he wants. He is what is called an artisan, not a manufacturer. He averages about one a month though his latest took 4 months. His first hollowbody. He works by intuition and inspiration.

His website is not set up to sell guitars but to stimulate players to think about the whole dismal industry it has become. His site is like a large book but worth visiting and reading again and again...tons of material and thought.

For all you judgmental naysayers here is some candy.

Pensa Sadowsky Bass Guitar

Oh my!
I know this thread is way old and long dead, but looking at that guitar, how do you ever adjust the intonation on that thing? It doesn't seem possible that it plays in tune. And even if it did, you could never change strings or raise or lower the string height. am I missing something? Or maybe this guitar is?

Re: Zachary Guitars... Anyone?

This guy should just open a museum for his guitars and not deal with the public from what i have read. He might be an artist but he is no salesman and if you take someones money it's your job to make what they want not what you want. Even if i had money to just toss away i would pass on anything with this guy.

Re: Zachary Guitars... Anyone?

I think it is quite funny he will rip builders who use CNC equipment, yet has no problem using their names as keywords to promote himself.
