Hi guys,
I'm usually an acoustic player but I'm considering switching to a solid body electric so I can mess around with loop stations and overdriven harmonics and whatnot. Anyway, I've become accustomed to playing on a high action with reasonably thick strings. I was wondering what the maximum gauge a les paul be able to handle would be (14s+ strings would be ideal), as well as if it would be able to cope with high gauge strings with as high an action as possible. I realize this all sounds somewhat masochistic but I worry about going back to an acoustic and not being able to play it as effectively after becoming used to lighter strings/lower action on an electric. I realize bending will be slightly harder on higher tension strings (and probably near impossible at 16s+) but I'm more of a slide/vibrato man so I'm not too concerned. If anyone has any suggestions for an electric guitar that can do higher actions/thicker strings than a les paul traditional then that would be helpful as well. Thankyou for the advice! The Captain |
