Vintage 1978 ibanez musician?

Hey guys, does anyone know anything about this guitar? Like value, or even the exact model? All I have been able to find out right away is that it's a 1978 ibanez musician and it was made in Japan. I'd like to know if anyone is familiar with this particular piece. It's ****ing heavy (11+lbs), and I was thinking about fixing it up???

They're good guitars. When I was in high school, the local hotshot guitarist had one, a neck-through like yours but different wood for the wings. He got great tones out of it.

Great guitars. The pics are blurry, but what's to fix up? Those pups are 1 piece (thus, nearly impossible to replace cleanly), the Gibraltar bridge is EXPENSIVE, if you can even find one, and the Sure Grip 1 knobs aren't cheap, either. There is a dude on the ICW, however, that repops them and they're pretty nice. I had a set of black ones on an old Dean just because I like them.

Electronics need to be fixed, it doesn't work properly. That's it though. It's extremely worn in places, but that's not a concern. I dont know what model this is though. I was thinking maybe between mc300 and mc500.

Keep us posted, I've always been a fan of the set-neck Ibbys and would like to see and hear more of this.

Re: Vintage 1978 ibanez musician?

The Ibanez Musician and all the Ibanez line coming out of Japan in the late '70's to mid '80's were very well build guitars that exceeded Gibson quality levels at the time. Do some research on this and you will be impressed. I have played them in the past and there great. There the best kept secret in the industry. I bought my '80 Artist in '84 and it was my #1 for 25 years. There is a reason they nicknamed this guitar "Les Paul Killer".
Get the electronics fixed and it should be one helluva guitar.

Re: Vintage 1978 ibanez musician?

It's gotta be a 150, I'm almost positive now. Just a three way pickup switch 2 volumes 2 tone knobs. Thanks for showing the catalog! I looked at a catalog, but didn't have as much info, thanks

There's an Ibanez Collector's forum out there that may b able to help you more...

And late 70's Ibanezes--are wonderful guitars...

Repops them?

I've got a 79 PS 10 that is in desperate need of one black Shure Grip 1 knob.

OP,
Cool guitar. Doesn't look like it needs any fixing up.

Re: Vintage 1978 ibanez musician?

Repop=reproduce. I picked up the term being into musclecars. My 73 Firebird has a maddeningly short supply of quality repop parts, thus the familiarity with the term.

A little searching over there and you should be able to find him. He started out just doing the rubber surrounds for the SG1s and moved onto all sorts of little odds and ends, including the full knobs, and in custom colors, too.

Re: Vintage 1978 ibanez musician?

I sold those in the 80's. I always loved the necks and the woodgrain on the tops. I remember jazz bass players loving the basses with active electronics.

That's a very cool guitar.

They are really nice guitars. Play great, very smooth. Sound good. I never got one, had a chance last year to get one, but had to pass.

Hi Guys

I wonder if any of you can help... I've been trying to research my late fathers guitar and came across this thread

I want to know what particular model his Ibanez Musician is and I can't seem to find anything that matches it completely

Do any of you know? And also could you give me any idea as to where to sell if for the best price

Hope someone can help

Thanks

Wow that was quick! Thank you

I've added another pic as the MC500's I've seen all seem to be different to my Dad's one - which was why I couldn't positively identify it

you want to sell it? I may be interested for the right price. I just am not too knowledgeable about them. Talk to me with a price if you get one. PM me with details and maybe another pic or 2

AAA. Those old neck through guitars are heavy as shit but look awesome. sound good too. Played a 74 Gretch with a neck through and fell in love with it. Would have bought it but it was really overpriced
