Thanks for the advice, NGG. It actually looks exactly like the guitar in the photo - red, made in Japan, fretboard binding, has the original HSC and doesn't appear to need any significant work.

This is the same guy I was dealing with a while back and he has a tendency to go dark for no reason and I think it's happening again so I may contact Wulfman.

From what I know of the 500s, they are equal in build quality (minus the pickguard and inlays) to the 1000. If it has the OHSC, frets are in good shape, I think you have a good deal there.

At least go and play it. I was a bit surprised by how chunky the neck is on mine-I like it that way, but others don't. At least you will have a chance to check it out, let it rip!

I've had a couple 500's. The nice thing is that they tend to be lighter in weight than the 1000,1500,2000, & 3000 series.

I wonder how much the brass plate weighs. My 700 is about 9.4 lbs.

Good question! A bud has a 2000 that weighs over 12 lbs, it feels like strapping on 2 Les Pauls at the same time. LOL

BTW, be careful with the Waddington Custom, I have my eye on it......

Hi, here are my Yams. Right to Left. SG700, SG2000 and SG400 (1981) I have not seen another 400 for years.

I have also been looking for a 3000 to fill that gap, if anyone in the UK knows of one for sale please let me know.

Nathan East plays yamaha basses, that's all the convincing I needed to get on board with their products. I've got a yamaha acoustic as a backup to my Larrivee, really says something about their quality.

Just got this for $200 off Kijiji

I believe it is an AES 720, but used to belong to a pro player with an endorsement and looks to have had the neck shaved a little and refinished along the way. Haven't plugged in yet but plays really well and will be a nice back up / alternate tuning guitar...

Thinking of stripping it down to the bare wood practicing some refinishing on it in the garage...

Wanted to get some opinions from Yamaha buffs... I've only ever owned a Yamaha bass (my first bass) and I love it, but recently saw a project on eBay... it was an RGX model from early 90s i think. It doesnt appear to be a very popular model, and I let it slip through my fingers (it was in pieces, cut back and missing its decal so i decided its probably more work than its worth). Are these models any good? Cheers
