Pickguard or not... acoustic guitar
I love my acoustic; Plain Jane...
Simple, honest look and a fantastic tone plugged and unplugged. Specs: Solid spruce top Solid rosewood back and sides Solid mahogany neck Ebony fingerboard Long scale (650 mms) Fossil ivory nut and saddles LR Baggs M1 passive p/u (not pictured) LR Baggs iBeam p/u and imix preamp (not pictured) I´m thinking about sticking a pickguard.... Would you do it?? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Do you need one? Are you are hard strummer? If not, leave her be!

Re: Pickguard or not... acoustic guitar
I have always wondered about acoustics that don't have a pickguard.
Is it because they're intended for fingerpicking rather than strumming that they don't have pickguards or is it purely for looks? |

Re: Pickguard or not... acoustic guitar
Pickguard for steel-string, no pg for nylon string. Given the waist on your guitar, I would guess you've got a guitar designed/intended for fingerpicking rather than strumming, but if you strum, I'd put a pg on it.
Then again, I am one of those people who keeps the guard on his LPs, too... ![]() Cheers!

Re: Pickguard or not... acoustic guitar
I've seen more tops chewed up by finger picking than a plectrum, but only you know what you're going to do to that lovely top, and if you care or not.
I play at open mic with a guy whose '72 Martin looks almost as "bad" as Willie Nelson's acoustic. Still sounds great.

Re: Pickguard or not... acoustic guitar
No pickguard is my vote!
The guitar is made to stay without it ...

Re: Pickguard or not... acoustic guitar
Silly thought but why don't you just play it until it gets scratched up and then put a pick guard over the scratches later? Just saying.
