Re: Is a PRS Worth it?
Actually, not much people care what guitar you're holding on your hand while you're onstage, only others guitarist care about that
![]() If you go onstage with a junk MIC Strat or something like that and still sound awesome, you will gain even more respect by others, no joke Quote:

Re: Is a PRS Worth it?
the birds and moons forum is a perfect example of what i was talking about. don't get me wrong, i've had a lot of fun looking at the pictures on that forum, but it's mostly middle aged guys with like 4-8 PRSi that they polish and leave at home, and then trade for other prs or R-whatevers. sorry to offend, but yeah, it's a little embarrassing.
santana is the exception to the rule, and also, his guitars don't have the custom sillhouette. totally different look imho.

There are several of us who post here, and there, and see PRS guitars for what they really are...very nice guitars. Heck, my R7 is way fancier than 3 of my 4 PRS. And there is really nothing in all of this for anyone to be embarrassed about. If the well off collectors have helped keep a company viable and afloat during a recession that hit right as that company was moving into a larger production facility, I'd say that is a good thing and god bless'em!

Re: Is a PRS Worth it?
A PRS is absolutely worth it, if you can afford it... Cause they sure aren't cheap.
They are a different beast to a Lester, no 2 ways about it.

Re: Is a PRS Worth it?
See the "after hours" section of this forum, where this topic can be more fully explored!
I paid considerably more for my 2011 R7 than I did new for my PRS SC245 and Korina McCarty with 5708s, and about triple what I paid for this on the used market: ![]() Some folks think that PRS guitars have funny looking headstocks. I don't! You got a problem with that? I mean, WTF? ![]() Peace.

Re: Is a PRS Worth it?
Dude, if you are going to drop over 2 grand and want to "best reach Gibson and Fender tones", get a MIA Strat (or a Tele, because Teles are the best guitars if you want to play real music) and an SG Standard. Best Gibson tone, and if you go with the Tele, best Fender tone (except for the jazzmaster of course).
That's my 2 cents... FWIW, PRSi have the best and I mean BEST quality control I have ever seen, I just can't groove with em. |

Re: Is a PRS Worth it?
Owning both an american 1992 PRS CE-24 and a 2009 Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro I can say without debate that an american PRS is a great addition to any guitar collection and may very well become your "go to" axe. They are light, thin, contoured, stable, look incredible, the highest quality, sound great...there are NO downsides. A good LP probably has more character to it's tone, and more low-end grunt, but there may be songs in which the LP doesn't quite fit, and the PRS's sharper, slightly more focused tone may sit better in that particular mix. More focused doesn't always mean necessarily mean better, just a different character. For example, you might find a PRS blends better with a particular keyboard patch used in a certain song, or vice versa with an LP, in THAT SITUATION. It's just another tone tool in your arsenal, that's all, like an artist uses different colors and shades for different paintings. And that's good enough for a musician.
Different guitars = more tonal possibilities to "paint" your sonic landscape. PRS is a great instrument. |

I'm 25 with two PRS guitars that I gig regularly. I've owned 3 Les Paul's have sold them all and keep going back to PRS. And oh yeah, I worked my ass off for my guitars, so no, I'm not embarrassed to play them at all.

![]() My Custom 24 is a nice guitar, but I don't feel it is any better than my Les Pauls or my Carvin CT6, which are all guitars in the same price range as the PRS. Except for the Carvin which is just as good (IMO) at half the price, actually.

Re: Is a PRS Worth it?
Damn!! Exactly like yours!! Beautiful!!
I've only seen one trans black and flamed (i saw a quilted top but I didn't like it too much) for sale around here in Mexico City, but the price is beyond budget, its a custom 24 and they sell it for $3,800 usd. That's one thing i dont get about PRS, the prices. I've been browsing ebay and big stores, prices are all over the place, some are cheaper, some not. It's not like a LP Traditional which you know new goes for like 2200 usd. I think you're right about Carvins!!! |
