Seriously people, is it that difficult?!

When you get a new guitar, don't just post pictures! Post sound clips too! Guitars are musical instruments, not pretty blocks of wood! Who cares what it looks like? I wanna hear how it sounds!

Not everybody feels comfortable posting clips of how they play or don't have anything to record with.

I'm still trying to figure out how to post some pictures.Never seen an icon or nothing after my insane post.Seen a thread once and it didn't help.It would be nice to hear some of our friends jamming out a bit more though.

Believe me, if I posted clips of me playing a new guitar, you would be completely focused on how much my playing sucks rather than how nice the guitar is.

Agreed. As soon as someone posts something that isn't played like a pro, some ass-clown will say something like, "You suck!" and "How about some pictures!!!"

This thread seems like proof that you can't please everyone all the time.

There is no right or wrong way to do it, IMO. We all share a similar hobby that revolves around guitars. I say let people bring what they want to the forum and the rest of us can just sit back and appreciate whatever that is.

Re: Seriously people, is it that difficult?!

I think id be correct in stating that most of us here have/use equipment
that exceeds our skills. After all, this IS the Gibson site....not Hondo.

Im ok with that. I have my moments when I can really razzle-dazzle her, but for the
most part im avearge at best, but having the time of my life.
So I say post yourself having a good time, who cares how good you are.

Re: Seriously people, is it that difficult?!

I beg to differ. I'm not on this forum to prove to anyone how good or bad I play. Most folks that hang out on internet forums like this one aren't pro musicians and are just here to share information and hopefully have a good time. Why would we want to be subjected to ridicule and bashing for our less than perfect playing. There is another forum that I frequent and they bash players like Joe Bonamassa and John Mayer all the time. I admit that I can't play anywhere near as good as those guys and I prefer not to get bashed. Not to mention that it takes a lot more time and effort to create and post a video or audio clip than it does to post a picture.

Re: Seriously people, is it that difficult?!

Sorry I kinda forgot about this thread today. Thing is, I don't expect people to be experts. Even some simple scales would be more than sufficient to hear the tonal qualities of the guitar.

I buy guitars to put them in a vault and I don't post vids of me playing. I suck. I have played every goose fart note that you ever heard!

I don't own a webcam, and to be honest, I've got bigger fish to fry. I'll put some stuff up when I get around to it, eh?

Re: Seriously people, is it that difficult?!

I don't own a webcam, I can't be bothered getting one, and videos don't sound like the real thing unless you spend a huge amount of time and effort anyway. Besides, I don't want some jerk "critiquing" how I missed "the 25th note of that easy 128th note run" or "didn't nail that famous guy's tone" :P

Uh, lots of people. That's why they pay more money for bound bodies, flamed tops, etc. etc.
There's a whole lot more that goes into your tone than just the guitar.

Nice playing. You have spent a lot of time learning that stuff note for note. I admire that. I can never get myself to do that. I capture a couple of key licks, then through my own spin on it.

JoeyDego ROCKS. Loving the Brad Gillis-esque wammy bar manipulations. When I use a trem I sound like a wanker. Can that be done on a Kahler or is that Floyd only territory?

Re: Seriously people, is it that difficult?!

I posted a sound clip not long ago in another forum (not MLP) and I got lucky; it met with resounding indifference. I guess that's better than being subjected to withering criticism.
