Hey, i am going to buy my first gibson very very soon. Could be on Saturday. Im done loooooaaaaads of research and finally come down to the SG Standard. Now, ive got one last decisions to make...Ebony or Heritage Cherry?
I dont know which one to choose! im so stuck! They both look sexy. are there any benefits when comparing the two? Will the ebony get fingerprints easily as well? Any useful info will be helpful! feel free to post any pics of your Gibson's! Thanks, Nathan!

Re: Gibson SG Standard - Ebony or Heritage Cherry?
Nice dude..Hope you get it on Saturday, first gibson feeling is priceless
![]() Go check out the "Show Your SG's thread and you'll get plenty of pics... I love the way the bindings and the black pickguard compliment the Cherry but Ebony is pretty sweet too and you don't see them around that much! Whatever your choice it's one sweet sounding and looking guitar and make sure you post pics when you get it

If its the dark almost wwine red cherry, I would get that. But if it's the really light red cherry go with the ebony. Good luck

i find they use a nicer piece of wood if you can see thru the finish for the most part.

I think that's what was implied. Buy the one you like. Good luck.
I like black.

Re: Gibson SG Standard - Ebony or Heritage Cherry?
Yup,there is dark cherry (most of the new ones) and some with a lighter shade!
Mine tends to slightly shift colors during the day from orang-ish to light brown and to cherry when it's more dark in the room..i dig it so much

Buy with your hands, not with your eyes. Not all SG's feel the same, the necks can be very different. The one that feels best in your hands is the one to get.

This thread reminded me that it's SG time in the rotation. ![]() My '03 Std... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() When I decided that I wanted an SG, I didn't really have a specific color in mind... I really liked the Naturalbursts I was seeing at the time... I was in GC one Saturday(yeah, GC. ) and this one had just come out of the box. It took me about two minutes to completely fall in love with it. Seven years later and I have still not found another one this good. Another example of the USA factory knocking one out of the park. It blows me away every time its turn comes around. |

Re: Gibson SG Standard - Ebony or Heritage Cherry?
I love my Ebony SG Standard!...
I was going back and forth on which finish to get as well before I bought mine. I really like them both, but the ebony just oozed sexy rockin' guitar when I saw it.... I have no regrets with my choice, but I may have to get a HC SG at some point...

Re: Gibson SG Standard - Ebony or Heritage Cherry?
Thanks guys for all the reply's! I think ill get whatever sounds better. It either tommorow or in like 3 months lol. Because Allans Music, which is the biggest music retailer in Australia where everything which is excess stock/demo. The minimum is 25% off and up to 75% everything. I have to get the very early otherwise everything is sold. If i cant get it tommorow, i will have to wait another 3 months until i get $2000 to get it full price new. So thanks guys anyway! i will post a new thread when ever i get it!
Thanks, Nathan! |

Re: Gibson SG Standard - Ebony or Heritage Cherry?
retail is for suckers. Go in to a retail store anywhere in Aus and offer them 20% off. Do it confidently, and they will take your offer, 9 out of ten times. The time they dont, walk out and go to the next store.
Any musical item worth over AUS$200, do the above and they will accept it. The mark up is often %200. Grow some balls and reap the rewards. Alot of people just cant ask for the discount!!! |
