SG Jr.
I've always dug SG Jr.'s, but I'm not gonna pay 'vintage' prices for a guitar that I want to take out and gig with...
I saw some similarities between SG Jr.'s and the SG Faded's:
![]() We filled in the pickup routs, bridge & tailpiece holes, and extra pot holes... ![]() ![]() ...we laminated the top so the paint wouldn't sink into the open grain of the filled routs or holes... ![]() ![]() ![]() Once we got the top laminated, we had to drill for the tailpiece, and rout for the P90... ![]() Now it was time to go for paint. Because of the routs & the laminate, Cherry was out of the question, so I had to choose between Polaris White, Inverness Green, or Pelham Blue. I went with Pelham Blue... All the old SG's that were solid color started out white, so here's that step (along with another SG in the RS shop that went Inverness Green): Watch the rest of the process here: We had another SG that went Pelham Blue in the shop right about the time mine was finished...here's some more SG porn... ![]() |

Re: SG Jr.
My God, that is spectacular!! Well done, who would have thought that a Faded SG could end up looking like that - you're a genius!!

Re: SG Jr.
That's sick Billy!
![]() A pelham junior is on my wishlist but a vintage price makes it just a wish. This looks like a perfect way to cure the gas. Thanks for the pics!

Re: SG Jr.
That looks amazing.
Strange to think how easy it is to get something that nice for such a low price

Re: SG Jr.
Thanks, guys, for all the kind responses. I just wanted to show the potential of these "affordable" SG's to morph into something cool.
Some more details of the guitar:
![]() ![]() ![]() Through my gig rig ('68 50w Marshall into a '69 Marshall 4x12), it sounds like "Riff Raff"... ![]() |

Re: SG Jr.

Re: SG Jr.
What tail piece is that? Amazing guitar, I am planning on a pelham blue epiphone sg that I did the same thing with. I already filled the bucker routes but have not veneered the top yet. Did you do anything to allow the neck to be removed later if needed? I figured it wasn't that crucial on an epi. I am going to put binding on my fretboard though I think and fill the control cavity to be more like an earlier junior. This is motivation to get back to that project!

IMHO, I wouldn't worry about filling the cavities or doing any binding... The only way the neck on my guitar will be removed is if I do it Pete Townshend style... ![]() |
