- yep, a Lucille with a Bigsby would certainly make for a "big boy" (spelling heavy) guitar I would think. As for the bad back - you're not alone on that one - lots of us can feel it when we strap on a true solid body Les Paul vs. a chambered one, etc. I know my back ain't what it used to be 20 years ago!

Re: lucille with bigsby

I saw one on ebay, but it still had the tailpiece on it, reversed, with the strings going straight through. Looked ok though. There's plenty of pics with the 355 and bigsby, which is essentially what a Lucille is....

yeah essentially yes, but missing a few key differences, the pictured 355 has no veritone switch, Lucilles have two inputs, one stereo and one mono
Coldsteal Keep your eyes on Ebay, I have seen a 345 or two with Bigsby's there

Re: lucille with bigsby

I'm almost certain they were in the price list about 15 years back, but of course that doesn't mean they made any.

(Or possibly not. No references to them I can find. Lucilles were a bargain 15 years back. What happened to the prices?)

Re: lucille with bigsby

Gibson marketing figured out they were blowing out 355'S at firesale prices.Forget the F holes and the access plate. The same reason they wised up on the 333's versus a satin 335. I got both;happy camper.

A blue guitar for the King of the Blues... makes sense to me!
Thanks for posting the pics. I really like that one. Was it a custom
order you did or did you pick it up second hand? I'd love to find one
in that color.

Re: lucille with bigsby

Memory Lane for a second...I remember meeting Riley B in I think it was like '72 @ a small, obscure college concert. I had been playing for like 2 yrs and my boys and I were fixated on the Allmans, Clapton and BB and here he was, out of the blue appearing @ our community college. Go figure. He arrived @ the college's track with like 3 sets of bleachers and maybe 15 people swarmed his car..an old Ford, I think. I made my way down to the mob and remember just waiting all of them out figuring they didn't play guitar and would soon fade away and, they did. All of a sudden, there I was, alone with the King himself and talking to him just like he was an old friend of mine. We talked for like 45 minutes one on one while the band set up. I'll never forget asking him if he ever played with Eric and he said to me.." Boy, you ask Eric if he ever played with me". Told me about his strings, his set up, admired all the young snatch runnin' around lol. Introduced me to the whole band. Told me never to give up playin' even tho most of the time I'd be frustrated..told me to practice my bends. ANYWAY always wanted a Lucille ever since they started making them. What hooked me was the song.."You Been Mean'.. on the Completely Well album. God, the wood on that song! It's a custom ordered model, only like 14 or 40 made,.. I can't remember. Called Washington Music and wanted a black one and they had None. Sales guy called me back the next day and asked me if I wanted a Beale Street Blue one. Jesus, are you kidding me? Sorry for the tangential dribble.

Re: lucille with bigsby

This all happened in Maryland. Sunrise gets some shows I guess. I haven't been to a show of any kind in yrs.. The Bank Atlantic center is right up the street from me here in Sunrise. Joe Bonamassa's supposed to be coming sometime in may. I think I'll catch that show tho..his Mgmt company's right up the street too, maybe I'll stop in there and try and score some good seats. You know between my R8 and the Lucille, I pick up the Lucille when I want more wood and more Grunt and feeling to my sound. I've never played a more responsive guitar with the kind of tone I like to hear from my fingers. I've got her dialed in to where she sounds almost like the B but with a little more hollow and a little more crunch.. I think a lot of guys may be put off by the Lucille on the headstock but you know this guitar has everything, all the binding- front, back, and headstock, the Grovers, the 3 piece maple neck with the block inlays. I'd kinda like to hear what the '57s would sound like tho. The Blue Bitch weighs in @ an even 10 lbs.

Once in a while I'll I'll futz with the Varitone if I'm bored but it usually just stays on #1. I haven't tried the stereo jack cause I only have 1 amp.
