Got a new ES-339!

Hello folks!

Two weeks ago I payed a visit to the States and on the plane home I had a really nice Gibson Custom Shop case laying on the overhead shelf.

When I got home, I could finally plug it into my Deluxe Reverb and it was screaming!

The action is pretty low, just as I like it and the intonation was spot on when I checked it and even though it had gone through one week in New York and after that a one week cruise in the Carribean and finally back home to Sweden, which is pretty amazing!

It also has really great sustain, just like a Les Paul.

These are available with a 59' rounded neck or a slim 60's one. I got the 60's since I've already got a 59' on myLes Paul and thought it would be nice with some variation. Anyways, the neck is very fast and easy and you can really feel the vibrations from the strings when you're playing.

The only thing that I didn't really like on this guitar are the knobs, which feel kind of cheap and plastic. But I've already ordered some really nice dark gold bell knobs, so it'll be fine.

I love it very much and the only bad thing is that I haven't touched my Les Paul in two weeks! :P

Some pics

Size compared to the Les Paul.

Unfortunately I didn't have my amp at home when recording this vid, so I'm playing straight through a small, crappy Custom bass-amp.

Please post some pics of your 339 or 335s! I'd be glad to see 'em!

Congrats. I'm a big fan of the mighty ES-339.

Best of luck.

Sounds good. You got a little crunch going through that bass amp, and some nice sustain...no pedals?

Well done - I've been looking very seriously at getting a 339 myself.

No, straight into the amp actually! Had to but a pillow right in front of the speaker though, as you may see, to get a little more compressed sound. Really funky, haha.

I think I'm gonna make a new vid, playing through the Deluxe Reverb and it'll probably sound way better!

Amazing guitar, strongly recommend it!

Just go for it!

Be sure to try out several of them though. I bought mine at Guitar Center and the other one I tried felt pretty bad. Nut was very sharp and almost cut into my hand and you could feel the frets alongside the neck.

How so? Since the fret ends are covered by the binding (nibs). The plastic was screwed up in some way? I've had that experience with some Gibsons that don't have binding though.

Well, maybe an bad explanation. I don't really know how to explain it, but the side of the neck just felt pretty sketchy on the other one.

Man...I've been gassing for one of these 339's for quite a while now. I should have grabbed one when they were $1750 about a year and a half ago..

Re: Got a new ES-339!

I just picked up an ES-339 today. Awesome guitar !!! Red with the 30/60 neck, July 2009 production. I cleaned it up a bit, changed strings, and did a setup, and this thing smokes. The action is super low and no buzzes. I can't find any workmanship issues with it at all. The Plek'ed frets are perfect and finished well - Gibson got this one right. It plays like a custom shop guitar should.

The case is fine - it's the same style case that came with my 1998 R7 Goldtop. It is a very nice case and fits the 339 perfectly.

This one is definitely a KEEPER !!!

I love the 30/60 neck. That's what mine is.

Re: Got a new ES-339!

I had the Deluxe Reverb home and figured I could try recording it. Couldn't really catch the sound of it though, but here you are anyways.

The ES-339 straight into a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb RI

Re: Got a new ES-339!

Must be the stars are in alignment or something. I've been wanting a 339 since I played one over a year ago at the local GC. Couple of days ago I get a check on an old stock settlement lawsuit. A fraction of what I lost, but hey, it's found money right? It's Christmas, my b'day is the day before, I just found some coin I didn't have....hmmmm????

So I headed to the local GC this morning since they extended their Guitarthon sale, and I have a red 339, 30/60 neck arriving here soon.

Even have enough left over to buy some shiny stuff for the other half so she won't "notice" lol the new addition to the herd!

Re: Got a new ES-339!

I got a very nice surprise when my 339 was shipped UPS one day air (no cost to me)! 9:30am Christmas Eve, UPS rings the doorbell. Unpack, inspect, change strings, polish and woohoo!!! This is one hell of a guitar and plays great straight out of the box. Mine too was July, 09 production, hence the string change. Fretboard got an oiling as well. (And yeah, I made sure everything worked first lol). Fit, finish, and quality on this thing is spot on.

Re: Got a new ES-339!

Sweet...

I put some Nickel 10's on mine - Les Paul Signature - it's what I had at the time. They play and sound great.

Awesome guitar.
