SG special Raw Power
Not much talk of these bad boys!!! My son is 7 and outgrowing his 1/2 scale mosrite, and I want to get him a Gibson. LP jr came to mind first, but the price tag not so much! Used the SG raw power seems to be going for 600-700 bucks! much nicer price point for my son and still a cool guitar! Any thoughts? I realy like the green one!

Re: SG special Raw Power
Yeah, well my old man did not do that for me either! He has been playing since two years old, and I on the other hand believe that a good instrument DOES make a difference. I am not ready to go buy him a Historic re-issue, lol but a special is in order here.

Re: SG special Raw Power
I've never played one, but they look great to me. I prefer the blue ones.
In your position, I'd be looking for a used Epi Junior '57 RI, but I realize you'd prefer a Gibson, and the Epi Juniors are pretty heavy.

Yeah, I am sticking with a gibby here! I like the gold one too! I also read that these SG raw power guitars a really well balanced and not neck heavy!

Man, I just love the blue - in fact it's really the only color I'd buy if I had the choice. But that green is nice.

Re: SG special Raw Power
Gotcha. I thought just the board was maple, but it's the whole neck. Cool. I know that offends some purists, but I think it's a great design.

I am with you! I think it's a great design as well! Solid, strong, and Clear/brighter!!! And I have read that it was re-designed to not nose dive!

Re: SG special Raw Power
That sounds delicious. With P-90s, the Tele twang would be quite doable, I'm sure. Only problem: your boy will want the P-90s too!

Re: SG special Raw Power
I think it would be way cooler if the dot inlays were black, a la fender maple necks. Other than that, I think its an awesome guitar!

Re: SG special Raw Power
I think thats awesome. My dad funded me for a faded gibson flying v a year and a half ago. Its a przed possesion for me cause it always sounds good no matter what amp i play through.
Make sure he learns to treat it with the up most respect though lol, i think the gold and blue look nice!

Re: SG special Raw Power
I think what ever one we get, we will put chrome covers on the pups though! If not replace them with P90's. The 57's are ok though!

Re: SG special Raw Power
Nah, he should just take it off. Or get one that says "Death" on it. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Re: SG special Raw Power
Let me just tell you, I LOVE THIS STINKIN' KID!!! So we sit down to look at some guitars to see what he likes and does not like. He not only liked the SG, he wants the olive green, and he wants to paint it with me to look like a mosrite of mine... (see below) Now I know some of you will pop your top over painting it, but this guitar will be from his dad, and will be painted with his dad, and I hope to spare him the selling of his first guitar so the resale value means squat to me! I am not sure we will even paint it, but wanted to share the story. I thought it was cute that he wanted to be like dad!

Re: SG special Raw Power
That's great. I remember the old Flying Tiger Mosrite! In that color, the SG just needs some stickers. But, the family that paints together, stays together. Sounds like great times.

Re: SG special Raw Power
bitter sweet outcome... His grandfather gave him a 1990's fender '72 thinline RI.
I am happy for him, but I was looking forward to the SG project.
