Have you played one yet, or just heard good things about them?

Re: New 7 String Explorer

Love it! If I didn't already have enough guitars I'd get one. Would be the first seven string I owned/played.

It looks okay, but it's rather 'dark'.

No because shred is coming back in a major way. Popular metal bands are soloing again.
The 7 string allows someone to play heavy downtuned riffs, but keep all those high notes for sweet solos.

I think the way Korn / Limp Biscuit / Nu Metal bands used them is probably on the way out (thank god), but there are still lots of death and tech metal bands using 7 strings these days.

The price is outrageous but at least it seems like a good idea to offer this. Now the shreadheads that want the super heavy stuff won't have to play Ibanez guitars.

Note: Epiphone did made a 7 sting les paul

It's a 7-string, not a baritone.

Re: New 7 String Explorer

the neck does look a bit short in general. maybe the extra width for the 7th string is making it look stubby.

Re: New 7 String Explorer

24 3/4 scale.
Most 7 strings are 25.5, 26.5 or 27" scales.
So, it is short.

MF price: $1999.

Too much, imho.

In the $2000+ range, I'd look at KxK, RRR, Ran, Shamray, etc..

Otherwise, I'll stick with my Carvins.
Or I'd get a Schecter Loomis.

Re: New 7 String Explorer

I haven't played 7-strings, but doesn't the Low B get a little floppy at the standard scale length? That's what I've heard anyway...the Schecter Loomis sig is probably the best bet for a 7 string right now.

In comparison to tuning a six string down to B.... NO.... Hell no!!!!

but, yeah, it is a little loose feeling!!

HOWEVER.... I used to play a lot of Type O Negative and they tune 6-strings to "b"... (and usually play higher on the fretboard cause you can play many of their songs in standard tuning....) Using a 7-string you get the right relative notes.... but not the TONE... part of type O's sound IS the sloppy strings of a normal guitar tuned to B!!.... a 7-string just doesn't sound right!!!!!!

Re: New 7 String Explorer

Personally I think its pretty cool. I play 7 string guitars in my band. If the guitar center by me gets one in I'll try it. I think it's the only thing they've come out with recently that will actually hit a target market of players. it's better then the zoot suit.

I wish they would do a double cut les paul 7 string, I think that would dope.

Re: New 7 String Explorer

I'm pretty sure they kept the scale length the same to keep the purists quieter.
