1967 ES335 In The House!!!

(more pix on page 3)

The other day, I was searching for the perfect beat to hell ES335 - I love well played vintage guitars... And, I came across this at Elderly:

I call and talk to one of the guys - I had my eye on a few of their guitars. Well, he tells me that THIS guitar is his favorite of the bunch. "Lots of weather checking, the repair is solid, the wear from the previous owner's thumb is REAL DEEP, but this thing plays and sounds amazing!"

"SWEET" I said. "I'll TAKE IT!"

Well, the FedEx man just showed up and left me a box. In that box was this beater case:

In that case was this beater guitar:

And, it rocks my world!!!

Some closeups of this battered beauty:

There is a very real danger that this guitar will become my #1!

Here it is with the rest of my starting lineup, minus my SG which is getting an overhaul from Roman Rist and Will Boggs.

If there's one person's fleet of guitars on here that I'd do pretty much anything to own, it's yours. That 335 is awesome!

Nice Dice...Nice...

So, when it's time to gig, how long do you look at your guitars and go "what should I take out today?"

Thanks brother! I think that this 335 is the cream of the crop of my "harem." Someone really loved this guitar for a very long time... Its too bad that whoever inherited it chose to sell it (no way did the original owner play this thing so much that his thumb wore a hole clear through the top and in to the block, and then choose to sell it). If you're ever in Montana USA, please top by and play a few of them!

Well, if one of the "crew" hasn't been gigged yet (all of these have, minus the hollows), it is the one that goes. Otherwise, it has been the most stage volume friendly - which are the Rists since they arrived. The Mustang has seen quite a few gigs, as has the Strat. For the most part, I just go with whatever I'm feeling on that particular day! I am simply in love with all of these guitars. Family aside, my biggest fear is that I'd lose them all in a house fire. My next place needs to have a vault - or else I'll have room converted to a fireproof haven for these beauties!!

And Shane - thanks much!

Thats unbelievable! Can I know the price? I am very curios PM me!

On a side note, Dan, you know I just got this G0. I was wondering if the PIO caps you sent me a long time ago that are in my Elitist would make an improvement over the stock ''bumblebees''

Nice bro, you loving yours so much makes me have more respect for my 330, gotta start playing it, By the way nice fender jaguar one of my favorites.

noticed the peavey classic in the back as well, matter of fact i just bought a peavey classic 50 212 combo, thats totally customized, burgendy snake skin, black grill cloth with skulls in the front, custom top i dont know what its called but the thing thats underneath the knobs, also has mesa power tubes and jjs in the pre section, didn't get to crank it yet but sounded awesome. i paid $300 for it, anyway didn't mean to jump in and change the subject, but wonderful guitar and great collection.

Great price on that C50!! I have a Classic 30 and Classic 50 - I gig them both religiously.

Your 330 is a gem - I can't wait to see pictures. They just don't make guitars like that anymore. Sure, that 330 of yours won't do hard rock and metal - but it is still a GREAT guitar! Play a little clean channel with that guitar, and I assure you that nothing can top it. No Les Paul on earth can match the clean tone of a vintage P90 powered Gibson hollowbody.

I suppose that pressing your thumb in to the top of hte guitar for 40 some years every day will do it! And, thanks!

Yeah i'll post some pics once i get home. believe me i don't play metal. the guitar sounds awesome through my quad reverb. only thing i hate about it is the feedback. since its full hollow. you probably don't have that problem with the 335.
but yeah i figured it was a nice price on the C50 forgot to mention the whole amp was rebuilt and biased for the mesa tubes. and has a brand new reverb tank in it as well.

but anyway i'll get some pictures of the amp the LP Special and the 330, you really gotta see this amp its awesome looking.

I have an issue with this every time I play, Dice. There's the question of "which one hasn't been used lately", but on some days some guitars talk to me more than others.

Hands down my Studio is my best gigging guitar. It's lighter than my LP Custom, and has an incredibly fat tone. I'd tag a few guitars after that one. But I still have troubles choosing on some days...

PS: I think you outta gig with that ES 335 ASAP...crank the crunch on that baby and you'll find out just what "fat tone" REALLY is...

I have an Epiphone Casino - which is the "same" guitar as the 330. The feedback can suck - but if you position yourself away from the amp, it is manageable.

I'm thinking about it. The amount of gain I run, it may be a nightmare, though! I'll take it to practice on Saturday and see how it fares.

Re: 1967 ES335 In The House!!!

Wow

Amazing Dice...just amazing!

The case is almost as beautiful as the guitar! There's nothing I love more than a well played guitar...like a comfortable old shoe....but this has got to be the loveliest one I've seen on the forum yet. I'll be back to drool over those photos again, I'm sure!

Must be kind of an spooky feeling the first time you set your thumb in that spot knowing how many years someone else's thumb sat there! I'm sure the old owner would be thrilled the guitar found such a great home if only he knew. I bet those pickups sound amazing too. With the crazy prices on vintage LP's, Strats, Teles, etc., isn't it amazing that you can still find old wood like this for such a steal!

Wow...great score! Killer guitar!

Thanks Kate! I definitely had a Wayne's World "We're Not Worthy" moment when I first plugged it in.

And, that thumb groove is something else. My thumb fits right in there. Quite spooky!

Go to myspace.com/wolfsrun and listen to a couple of those improv jams. Those were done with an Epi Sheraton II (same deal..not as nice, but the general gist is there) through a Marshall TSL60 with the gain cranked.

Crank the crunch and you can milk it into that gorgeous Ted Nugent/70's Alex Lifeson harmonic feedback. Bliss!

Nobody goes that far with a guitar to get rid of it, you're right!

If I'm ever in the area, you'll get a shout

Thanks.

I was just gonna add..once you've got that harmonic feedback locked in with those....you can just move your hand up and down the fretboard...no picking required...

I really dig that sound. I don't play jazz at all and not much country...but I do love those archtops..

I'm going to listen to the rest of them. You've got some chops - and you can really "feel" what you're playing!

Do you plan to keep the trap or convert it to stoptail?

Re: 1967 ES335 In The House!!!

Keeping the Trap - probably going with a Gotoh bridge that I have on hand. One of those saddles is cut a bit deep - and I don't feel like sourcing a nylon saddle - I'll just replace the bridge!

Sentry - I don't have any spare chops for you - possibly some tone, but not much!
