Best NEW Gibson for under $1500USD

Allright...the skinny....which one?

Let's say you're at your resident Guitar Denter with 1500 bucks burnin' a hole in your pocket. What do you go for here?

Tough call.

If you look beyond the Les Paul, the right Explorer can be magical. I saw a great player the other night with a plain 'ol ebony Explorer, but he ditched the ceramic pickups for BurstBuckers and the thing sounded better to me than his Les Paul. But tone is in the ear of the beholder....

While I like Vs a lot, the ergonomics of sitting with one just turn me off of them.

SGs can be great guitars when you find one that speaks to you.

A P90 Junior or Special?

Of those listed, I'll take the BFG.

Damn. They are all badass but I would go for something a little different that what you already have. Lets put the Les Pauls aside because you already have a couple. The SG is a great guitar but it is also a traditional looking guitar. The V and the Explorer are more eye catching and you could always change the pickups.

I gotta admit *looks both ways* I've been eyeballin' those SG's lately....

I'd love to get an ES-335 first, but the price tag is really compelling me to consider other options.

Plus, if anything, mebbe this poll should dispel the fact that no matter what you choose, you can have a kickass Gibby for well under 2 grand....

I voted for the LP Studio w/ the new Silverburst in
mind, which i've played & found to be quite rocking.

But i think i may have clicked on my vote too soon &
that i'd actually probably end up getting an SG or V.

Just because i've already got an '88 Silverburst Standard &
i'd prefer to add something a little different to the arsenal.

SG or Explorer. Depends which played and sounded better. I really am GAS'n for a SG right now. So that's my choice.

None of the above. Limited to $1500, I'd probably look at another brand. Over $2500, however, it may be a different story.

Voted for the BFG here. Not because I'm a Gary Moore fan (which I am) but because it's a no-nonsense, get the job done, kick ass guitar and the only one on the list that really doesn't have an equivalent that you could get from another manufacturer for less moolah.

Out of those above I'd absolutely go with the Gary Moore BFG. I don't get the whole sig. deal on that one, but regardless, I've played that model and it was just killer. My favorite new Gibson LP made right now. Seriously, its rough enough like the regular BFG's, but a little nicer finished, and just sounds killer!!! P90 neck and HB bridge is brilliant!!

I would go with explorer, they are just too cool looking. Or maybe a V, but they are just to awkward to play sitting down for me. They are ALL a good choice though. I think a white explorer with a black pickguard added would be my choice.

For less than $1500 price range
IMO - New Gibson SG Standard $1199... I own one and it's a great guitar.

For just a bit more $...

Les Paul Traditional Pro.

I know a few guys on this forum picked up a new
one for a couple hundred more than $1500

hmmm...i had an SG Special and currently have a Std. I had a BFG. I have a LP Studio and Explorer. Never really been interested in the V.

I would say the SG Standard first and then the BFG. i would play them all at GC, and then buy one from somewhere else.

Honestly.... If i had $1500 bucks in my pocket when i went in to guitar center and HAD to buy a guitar.... this is what i would walk out with.

They are Awesome!!

And, personally.... For $1500 you're not getting into Gibsons High quality range to begin with.... Spend 8-900 on an Eppi and you'll have a similar quality guitar as a $1500 gibby.

But thats my opinion!
