Gibson SG faded question...
Hey, guys. Can someone please help me with this question?
I've had this work horse for 4 years. I love it to death, and i've done modifications to suit my playing style. As long as it's in one piece, i'll be playing it.. However, i've gigged with it many times on local shows, and it's been heavily used. My finish is almost brown looking, and I bought it as "worn cherry". It looks really dull, and not as good as it used to. Is there any way possible I can stain my guitar to a dark cherry? I've looked everywhere to try and learn how to do it, but i've never heard of anyone staining a SG special faded. How can I do this without hurting the guitar or making it look worse? I want my SG to look as beautiful as it used to be ![]() Thanks! |

Re: Gibson SG faded question...
Here's a link to a thread by username "Last." I believe he's done a number of refinishing jobs. It all comes down to how much work you want to do and how confident you feel working on your guitar (Hint: it ain't rocket science).
The Search functions on the forum are quite helpful. For example, to find this thread, I went to "Search," then "Advanced Search." Under advanced search I entered keywords "SG faded" and username "Last." I also narrowed it down by looking only in the "Custom Shop" forum. Good luck with it! Let us know what you decide to do. I have one of the brown faded SG's and would love to do what "Last" did when I can find the time. Fred |
