Re: Casino/ shereton??
sheraton has fancy block inlays and has the fancy leaf motif on the headstock.

Re: Casino/ shereton??
John played a Casino, as did Paul. I think they were both '65's.
The main difference is that the Casino's neck joins the body at the 16th fret as it's fully hollow, the Sheraton has a solid centre block and therefore a neck joint at the 19th fret. Plus casino's have P90s, vintage Sheratons started with the NY hums, then went to mini hums & then when they started making them in the far east they switched to full sized humbuckers. Also the Sheraton has a multi bound body, block markers & as said, the vine headstock inlay. It's the 355 equivalent with the Casino being a 330 (in loose terms). |

Go to YouTube and watch the Beatles rooftop concert. You will see John playing his Casino. It was originally made with the burst finish, but John later sanded it off to natural wood and put a thin lacquer clear coat on it. He changed the tuners and put nylon saddles on it, as well. It has real hot P90s and is prone to feedback. One can get a nice stock Casino for about $600 new at Guitar Center, or a full Lennon replica model for about $2200. I have a reissue of the 1965 Casino without the Lennon mods. It's called the Epiphone Casino Elitist (made in Japan).

Re: Casino/ shereton??
^ That Casino is lovely! I'm seriously thinking of getting one as a backup for my 1964 ES330TDC.
How are you finding it? They look really well built & I imagine with a couple of 60's P90's in they'd be fantastic. |

Re: Casino/ shereton??
The Casino is a really great rock and roll guitar - think Chuck Berry, early Stones sound. They are very nice to play, just don't get too close to the amp - they are real hollowbodies and will feed back easily.

Re: Casino/ shereton??
Ive yet to play a Sheraton but the Casino I have and in my opinion its one of the best guitars ever made .
They are easy players with great action a narrow neck and also Ive yet to play one that did not sound great . |

Re: Casino/ shereton??
an Epiphone Riviera P93 is another good way to go. Ive purchased mine a few weeks ago to put my beaten LP workhorse to back up duty as a vacation from the main guitar spot light. It sounds similar to Lennon's when you play around with the volume knobs plugged into a Vox. I use it as a rhythm guitar as i did with my LP and im not planning to get rid of it at all.

Re: Casino/ shereton??
As far as Epiphone semi-hollow guitars go (I know we are mostly talking about the Casino which is hollow) I love the Epiphone Nick Valensi Signature Riviera model. It has Gibson USA P94 pickups (humbucker sized P90s), a trapeze tailpiece, bound body and fretboard, and cool parallelogram markers.
