Pics of new to new Gibson Paul Jackson JR AKA 346

Well, it came in and DAMN. IT"S NICE!

Not as much snap as my old G&L hollow Tele Deluxe with Duncan HBs, but a refined animal with balls nonetheless! I compare the two because i just sold the tele and this one's replacing it and my SG.

Pics to come and maybe a vid if I'm up to it. Been aching for weeks, and am playing real crappy. Might be Lyme disease.......dunno.
Anyway back to guitars, this one came as described. Yes, it's one of those ebay deals . No scratches that I could discern at all and the gold was/is immaculate.
The '57's are a great voice or should I say are great voices for it. Both very different and useful. Very woody almost acoustic sound when both are engaged and a little reverb added.

The compound radius is useful, I could feel it. The intonation is off and it looks like the bridge does not have much adjustment let so I may be needing a bridge with a bit more throw to the movable pieces. Tone Pro perhaps. But first I'll see if I can turn some around.

I got it intonated and it's doing fine. Funny the 10's feel so slinky on it compared to the 10's on my LPS. Same scale lengths, but different feels altogether. This neck is skinnier and the strings go sharp easier if I don't tread a little lighter. It's a great fusion box with an emphasis on rich overtones. Gotta roll of the highs a bit to go mellow Jazz. It also makes a fine Cream tone with the highs all but rolled off the neck pup.

Here are some pics. Yeah, I wuz thorough

Straightpull headstock:

One piece mahogany back and sides. Very comfy gut carve:

Folks, here's why we shoot pics through polarizes:

Re: Pics of new to mew Gibson Paul Jackson JR AKA 346

This guitar is just too overwhelmingly awesome bro. I shaking my head right now. Stunning! In both its design, finish, and condition!!!! That board is too die for.
The Les Paul will always be my favorite LOOKING guitar, but its design is sometimes not the most practical. THIS guitar however, looks lighter, comfier with the belly cut, better tune-wise with the headstock, extra resonance and fullness with the semi-hollow, etc. The perfect guitar. Is it coil split?
Again man, congrats!!! So you sold the Eliott?

Thanks! Not coils split,.....YET!...

My R9 is coil split with WBS and I put tonestyler tone post I it too, Man what tone.
This one sounds great as is, but I believe the pickups are four wire so I could get some RS push pulls and it would be even more versatile while looking stock. That's why I love the rear cavity. It's like a Les Paul but a hollow body. You're right, what's not to like?

I pulled doubt my R9 for comparisons, and well, ..I gotta have both
The 346 has almost a Rickenbacker jangle to it in the center pickup position.

Yeah, The Elliot Easton SG is a wonder beast but we are trying to get some $$ to buy a house, so I put a lot of stuff up for sale. My Tel and the Elliot went. I loved them, great tone and playability. I hope to get another EE after we are settled.
So why did I get this one? Well, I out in a low bid and won! How could I say no? The guitar is now only a special order through the Custom Shop. This is one of those from 2008.
Been on the lookout for one of these at an affordable price point for a while, so...

The Elliot went to our friendly Neighborhood resident winder...He's happy boy.

lucky bastard. i would LOVE to have that guitar...well, in left handed. Does the straight string pull help with tuning?

I've never had a Gibson I did not have to renut and relube a lot other than my old ;68 LP Custom. This one seems to stay in tune no matter what I've done so far. The string/nut alignment works real well.

While I really love the traditional headstock looks, but the usefulness of the straight pull cannot be underestimated.

The thickness of the top-binding inside the cutaway is outrageous.

Yeah, Dat'sa big strip, eh?
The attention to detail is quite good, way better than my CS Elliot Easton SG. That needed me, an All Parts catalog, and a luthier to bring it up to spec. This Paul Jackson Jr is great right outta the box.
Ok, well, I get a bit of fret buzz since the action is so low. I may adjust the neck and bridge a bit.

Absolutely gorgeous and a unique model at that! Great photos - what do you mean by polarized, though? Sorry, I'm a photography noob!

It's crazy that Gibson can come up with something fairly original and cool like this and then they pull the Reverse Vee out of their asses.

That is a REALLLY cool looking guitar right there. Love the headstock.

Thanks. Yeah, Gibson CAN be innovative and creative yet they give us the Guitar of the week/month and it's always the same old slab/solid bodies mixed and matched. Gibson really should get a bit more adventurous in their limiteds.

This guitar is an example of some fairly standard ideas out their in the world come home to roost. The Johnny A sig model is another winner with some great design combinations. Gibson makes some really different andfun nioche guitars, but they make ya look for them. They really should do a hoolwbody for the guitar of the month sometime.

The straight pull Headstock polarizes the Gibson fans. Some love it , most hate it. I was in the latter group but came to understand it and love it. Trouble is, to many people, it looks like Gibson is copying PRS.

Thanks for the photography link! I'm not a fan of the straight pull headstock - from a mechanical/tuning stability standpoint I appreciate it and don't consider it "copying PRS", but the pinched open-book top actually reminds me of Epiphone.

The honey burst really looks good with the gold hardware..! I think you are gona dig this guitar Harp for a long time. Again glad you picked it up… I wish I would have taken the time to correspond with the seller like you did. I might of had two.... Zap

Did you have to turn the saddles around to get the intoneation? You are gona have to post a link to this thread from the "any body got one"...

Still waiting for info on the production numbers... This will turn out to be your most collectable guitar you own... Don't unsolder the pots...Ha..

Like I said befor you made money on this one... Just by the picktures alone they are so much better than the seller's offering... If it had your pics it would have sold for 1k more...R : > }

By-the-way the headstock complments this guitar.... Gibson's ferrari model...

Good point on the headstock complementing the guitar's abilities. Ferrari, eh?
Got the intonation prettyspot on by ear and by Peterson Strobo Flip. Still have soem buzz overall because of the low action though. The neck has almost no relief. I think the bridge is not arched the way the compound radius needs it to be. Been a while since I messed with compound radius'.
Great tone, but I want the action to stay low AND get rid of the buzz.

Yeah, good pics sell products. Simple as that. I'm a photographer, so I know a few methods of getting what is needed done, plus I love these guitars.

Great layout of your 346 in your shot. A bit grainy and la little softer than it should be though. Did you use an older digital camera, or real grainy film? Either way I'll do a reshoot for ya , but ya gotta pay my airfare

The compound radius is nothing like my Fender. You do have a piont about the bridge though.
Yeah I see you see right though my low quality cam. I used a cheep old cam about 6 or 7 years ago. The flash washed it out so I put a scotch tape on the flash. Never got around to sporting some new photos....I have a new cam now and a tree to lean it on....
Look back at the Ferrari see the pointing headstock and the two F holes in the hood....

Sounds like ya just gotta giot to the tree or a Ferrari and take some new pics.

My old digicam live on for years as well. The flash died after five years by then had given it to a friend who used it for his autoparts business.

Here's my new little carry around camera. It's a low light manager with a fast Leica lens and panoramic full resolution sensor. Great piece if you are into taking good pics without a flash .

Cool pic! Thanks! You guys look like fun! From what I see of your amp it's real nice on. Loud and clean I'm sure.
I remember the Nineties when the Japanese were buying up all out vintage instruments. A lot of history and good wood went into vaults forever. Ah well, such is life when a tool becomes a collectible.

Hey, here's a guitar I enjoy that should put a smile on yer face:
The tree and rock should look familiar:

Yeah, I DO love the surf era

Ok Harp….I’m biting, where did you get the Mosrite copy…. Is that a Wilson like Dougie’s…? Very cool surfy color…. I have been buying lights for our home all day… I am a little punchy right now. I was worried that my Fender and the Fender bender Custom Sam Tantalo gold “Jazza-caster” would kill this thread… I am sure it is semi dead…

Well this is a specialty thread as it were, but we are veering off course.
The Mosrites copies are done VERY well. Plus they play in tune!
Cheap as well. Here's the website. I picked mine up locally. The same company that made my 3 pickup P90 hollowbody, Eastwood.

Welcome to Eastwood® Guitars.com

They make such interesting retro stuff, and it's all affordable. You can grab a bunch and still be under a grand.

Thanks Guido.

I played it for an hour today instead of goofing on the internet. Time well spent i tell ya. It's a very comfortable guitar to sit down with, the rear gut carve is a welcome addition. I wish more guitars had it.

The JoeyLeone is a top notch one . I have one and it is sooo nice. Unfortuntaly I am selling it to get the house money. You need one?Mine is set up with a new bone Buzz Feiten nut, the frets have been professionally crowned. It did not need much, but I took it over the edge. Mine's a grand if you are interested. Let me know..

Eastwood Joey Leone 335 3-P90 Style semi-hollowbody
