Interested to know...

Hey guys, first post here...been looking at the forums for a while and finally got round to registering

Anyway, as you can likely tell from my screen name, I've bee a fan of explorers for some time - and the only qualm (minor) i have with the gibson versions is the uncovered pickups, however i notice gibson sells empty pickup covers on its website, and i was wondering (just out of curiosity really) if anyone could tell me exactly how pickup covers would be attached to the pickup itself, since when i look at pictures of guitars with covered humbuckers versus those with open-coils, i cant see any extra screws or anything

I'm not very knowledgable about guitar construction, so any help would be appreciated

Wax. Otherwise, the covers will vibrate.
Find out what the parts will cost you and take it to a guitar tech.

The pickups are waxed; the covers are soldered.

Peace.

Re: Interested to know...

I've tried this before.
It can get pretty messy.
I would just have a professional do it, but if you trust yourself, go for it.

the sides of the covers are soldered to the plate. its easy to do. make sure you have a good hot soldering iron.

Re: Interested to know...

friend of mine had some work done to one of his guitars at said music store and it came back great, so if i were to send it in I'd be pretty confident it'd be done properly

all depends on whether i decide to change out the pickups completely or put covers on the existing ones - either way the music store is going to have to do it because i am pretty much useless with a soldering iron, or a screwdriver, or pretty much any tool you can think of .

Re: Interested to know...

Another thing is there are different kinds of covers. The poles have different spacing on neck and bridge Pups, and there is also Vintage and Modern spacing as well. My Explorer has the 496-R/500-T pups which have modern spacing.
