2009 ES 137 Classic Colors

Greetings to all!

Being a new member to this forum, I'm not sure if the following question was asked...so here goes:

I'm in the market for an ES 137 Classic (Tri-Burst), but have noted that the newly designed Gibson web page has only two finishes shown: Heritage Cherry Sunburst and Blues Burst.

Last year, the finishes Gibson indicated as available were the two mentioned above, and also Tri-Burst and Silver.

Does anybody have any information as to whether Gibson has scapped the Tri-Burst finish? If they did, that's an absolute shame...beautiful finish!

Thanks!

Re: 2009 ES 137 Classic Colors

I believe you are right, that is why I purchased one in vintage sunburst from a local dealer. I believe they will only have 2 colors and I don't like either one of them. I think they are also discontinuing the es 137 custom entirely as I couldn't find on their website, which I don't like as it isn't as user friendly as before....

Re: 2009 ES 137 Classic Colors

renin71,

I'm hoping that this is just an oversite by Gibson with the new webpage. The Triburst (IMHO) is an absolutely stunning finish! It just seems that only two finish selections for this calibur of an instrument would be an insult!! But, you know what's interesting? All of the Gibson authorized dealers: Sweetwater, Musicians Friend, GC etc. still have last years finishes (not in stock, but can be ordered) listed on their sites...so who knows??

At any rate, how do you like your 137? What types of music do you play, and what gear do you run your 137 through?

Thanks for your reply!

Re: 2009 ES 137 Classic Colors

yes, mine is a 2008 model. I have it on layaway, will pick it up in feb.
I plan to play it thru my fender deluxe reverb amp and use a tube screamer for dirty tones. I may have it coil split too to get single coil tones. I play jazz as well and the neck pickup sounds great with the tone knob all the way down. Good luck hunting down your es 137 classic. I got mine for only $1450, which destroys on-line companies prices. You may wanna try centre city music in san diego california which also has great prices at 18885GIBSON. hope that helps...

renin71,

Thanks for the information! I'll give these folks a call and see what they can do for me. Considering that all of the internet stores are selling the 137 for $2049, you did awesome on the price! Congrats!

Be sure to post some pics when you get it!
