Hmm Paul You should Check into Orvilles, oustanding quality, I truly believe better over all than you are gonna find with a new Standard at a lot less the price of even new LP Studios
8 K is a bit extreme, even for a Gibson VOS

I don't think we have an orvilles in Australia. I meant for a factory fitted bigsby sorry. American instruments cost more over here.

Orvilles were produced in Japan by Fuji Gen on license from Gibson from 1988 till 1998 Look in Ebay, I have owned 4 Orville's and still have my 59 Orville LP

I got my last two Orvilles off Ebay
Buy a Epiphone, Orville or Orville by Gibson Guitar at OrangeGuitar.com
orville guitars, Guitar, Musical Instruments items on eBay.com

I recommend these for several reasons, One they are oustanding craftsmaship, you can own or aquire these and play them and not so much sweat about them as you would dropping 12 K into one or two guitars , SRV owned a Japanese Strat that he loved so much he even wrote a review of it, and SRV was not exactly the most litarary of guys. Billy Gibbons owns several Japanese Replica LP's and sometimes they go on tour with him also . I am trying to explain you dont need to spend a fortune to have good craftsmaship and tone Although my Orville LP is my backup guitar,Its pretty much more because I am more used to , and have had and bonded with my main Gibson 60 Re Issue more and longer

I've played some LP copies and there are some that are VERY good, but there are a couple of small details that make it worth buying the real thing. I have yet to find a company that brings the plastic binding over the edges of the frets like the Gibson SG's and LP's do - I have some weird attachment to the feel of that now! The second is the Nitro finish that most manf. simply don't use.

Hey, could you tell me more or give me a link about Gibson's nitrocuellose or whatever finish? I have heard good and bad things about it, and also, at the edge of my guitar where my arm rests, I have a huge sweat stain that looks like a blur covering the finish. Thanks to anyone who can give me some info.

I honestly could not give a dam what the condition of the guitar is, as long as it is playable with good electronics and really nice neck i couldn't care if there was hardly any paint on it or scratched to hell. really i would like something like that I'd rather have a guitar which has been ground in over the years rather than a brand new LP especially with what Gibson is doing with the chambering.
