Grace Potter gets a signature Gibson...
Don't get me wrong, I love Grace Potter. She's sexy, great stage presence and one hell of a rocker, but how does she get a signature Gibson Flying V?
Gibson.com: Grace Potter Signature Flying V from Gibson USA And what the hell is a "Bound Chechen fingerboard with acrylic dot inlays"?

Re: Grace Potter gets a signature Gibson...
Chechen: Chechen is an exotic Mexican wood with a wide range of color variation from dark chocolate to light butterscotch colors. Chechen has an irregular grain pattern, and coupled with the color variety it makes fantastic finished pieces. Chechen is also hard and dense, which allows the wood to polish to a high sheen without effort
and "Lol" at another Gibby Signature model. Especially for one who's young and more of a Singer then a guitar player. |

Re: Grace Potter gets a signature Gibson...
I wish people would understand that signature models have little to do with perceived skill of said player and all to do with marketabillity.

Re: Grace Potter gets a signature Gibson...
It is a nice looking guitar and a continuation of breaking the glass celling. There are a bunch of "sig" guitars out there that are not based around "monster" players.
There are good and bad things about the structures that are created (you know the whole "religion is the opiate of the masses but a heart in a heartless world" quote) in a case like this, one of the good things is that it benefits Gib to expand and market to women. Basically since we all fall within the first slandered deviation of the normal curve basically everyone is able to meaningfully contribute to the development of the sciences and the arts.

Re: Grace Potter gets a signature Gibson...
To be honest, i'd not heard of Grace Potter until one of the members on here posted that he picked up one of her Sig Flying V's last week:
NGD!! Flying V content!! I've seen a couple of things on YouTube and she seems quite accomplished even though she is'nt a dedicated guitarist in the sense that that it is all she does. Having said that, i don't give much of a Tinkers cuss; it's a great looking axe and i'm actively chasing one. I like the appointments of the guitar and it's nice that it's a little different to the run of the mill V (if such a thing exists) and the fact it does'nt have any scrawl on it makes it even more desirable in my eye's.

Re: Grace Potter gets a signature Gibson...
2 things: it needs an ebony board and those gold knobs have to go. Other than that its a cool V.

Re: Grace Potter gets a signature Gibson...
At first glance they looked gold, but yeah you're right they're amber... an ebony board would really set it off though I think.

Re: Grace Potter gets a signature Gibson...
I think it is a killer looking guitar & I like that they are using alternate tonewoods.
One of these V's would look nice in my collection. I also find Grace Potter and the Nocturnals a lot more listenable than 90% of all the guitar hero music out there so giving her this sig model is cool.

Re: Grace Potter gets a signature Gibson...
Not a bad looking V, it's a bit different for sure. I like her music/band but really wish I had never seen her episode of Story Tellers. I just really dislike her after seeing that. Not sure why, she just came across as very pretentious, but that's just me.

Re: Grace Potter gets a signature Gibson...
I think the guitar itself is pretty bada$$ but I agree that the board is too light - the days of rosewood boards on Gibson USA guitars seem to quickly be coming to an end.
As for Grace Potter herself, I would consider her more of an organist rather than a guitarist - the girl can rip up a B3 like no one's business. She has gone a little 'Hollywood' over the past couple of years but she does have some serious talent. |

![]() Ah well. At least she looks awesome holding it onstage! PS: I'd rather hear her behind a Hammond B3. I miss the OLD Grace Potter prior to the blonde bye job and miniskirts. Yeah, call me prude, but GP v.1 seemed more...real...

Re: Grace Potter gets a signature Gibson...
I actually messed with one the other day at the Edina, MN GC. It felt great!! If it wasn't for the fact it was a "V" I would have begged or borrowed the money to take it home. It could have sounded like sh*t for all I know, but I know I liked how it felt in my hands. I thought the neck was a 50's neck and had the associate check for me only to find out it had a slim tapered neck.

That is one sexy beast. Yeah, the guitar is cool too.
![]() What's so funny? With that MSRP the retail will be about $1200.

Re: Grace Potter gets a signature Gibson...
It ain't about being able to shred the neck.....Grace is the total package. She can write, play multiple instruments at a VERY high level, and brings it from the heart...
She earns the sig because she is a consumate MUSICIAN! By the way...I've been not five feet from her on more than one occasion and watched her play slide and kill it... Nothin' But The Water live...She had the tone and chops....Don't count her out as a player she could hand many of us our asses as musicians and not break a sweat. |

Maybe I am wrong about her "guitar ability" but it just goes against the grain for me see Gibson create a specific model for a pop music artist who strums the guitar. And who likes it because it made her feel stable on stage...?? I guess I am just an old(er) guitar pinhead. Isn't she a keyboardist? If so then let Hammond, Wurlitzer or Yamaha sport a GP signature keyboard. Not a bad looking chick though... |
