Gibson ES-446

Amazing axe, LP sized, but hollowbody with carved spruce top.
Anyone to share experience?

It looks like a Byrdland and a Lester all rolled together.

Indeed it is perfect marriage between spruce top jazzbox and Lester shape/size.
It is very differently voiced than similar, but bigger guitars or LP Pat Martino.
There are some very devoted owners.

Re: Gibson ES-446

Why on earth would they leave off the neck binding??? Surely they aren't looking to save a few pennies...

Re: Gibson ES-446

I love bindings on Gibbies and actually out of 8 I own this is only one without.
To some extent that makes it bit different and not less lovely.
In person 446 looks really nicely balanced and well rounded side by side with 'better' appointed Customs.
I'll plan to experiment with few reversible upgrades like swaping PU's, floating (not fixed on the top) Bigsby trem and electronics.
It is very distinct sounding hollowbody and I wish to explore further tonal possibilities of this axe.

it was one of the most expensive Gibson models at the time, the body is one piece mahogany that is hollowed out and the top is carved from spruce with stays carved into the top, the top carved to a precise fit with the body so no glue was used, they came equipped with two 57 Classic humbuckers, in my opinion one of the best Gibson models of the last 30 years, Gibson stopped making them as they were very labor intensive and expensive for them to build and they marketed this guitar wrong by comparing it to a Les Paul and a ES 335, the ES 446 have there own voice that is completely different than a Les Paul or any other ES model, a versatile guitar that can go from Rock to Jazz with out a problem, the rear control panel cover is particularly handy if you have to work on the electronics any time, they are rare and people who have them tend not to let them go, but if you ever get chance to play one I'm sure it will impress you.

That is by far the longest post I have ever seen from you. That's usually a month's worth of HOT-BRIT writing right there.
