For those with triple pickup SG's...

Do you find that the middle pickup gets in the way of your picking?

If I'm going hard at it, yes. In those cases, I just drop the pickup as low as it will go and try to...control myself.

I don't know why, but I've never had a problem with this, is it the pickup your hitting or the pickup ring?

Oh I don't have a triple pickup SG (yet). I'm trying to decide if I want one...unfortunately I haven't found one locally to try out.

Fair enough, well you're best bet is to try one and even if you do find it gets in the way you'll only have to change your picking style slightly, you'll be able to do it easy enough.

Re: For those with triple pickup SG's...

The middle pickup in my HSS strat was in the way of my picking when first got it. The root of the problem though was not the pickup, it was my picking and my hand movement & placement. I worked on this issue and today I have no problem at all.

All I wanna say is, if the middle pickup bothers you, lower it a little and work on your technique. Theoretically, it should not bother you.

It changes your style. I have a Epi Black Beauty 3 and i use it for songs that dont require "as" much grind and aggressive playing... so anything jazzy or slow its perfect for. When it comes to punk then it can get in the way a bit. You adapt.

Re: For those with triple pickup SG's...

i play an epi BB, and ive NEVER had a problem with the middle pickup. my friends come over to noodle it and they put it back after a few minutes-"aww the middle pickup keeps getting in my way i cant stand it".
i mean, if youre used to setting up with super low action, i might see some interference, but i set my action meduim-meduim high coz i like to play slide too.

Re: For those with triple pickup SG's...

I pick near up the neck or right next to the bridge, so three pickups never really bothered me when I had my SG Custom.
