Gibson "THE SG"
So what is the deal with "The SG" is it like the faded model of the time?
-Walnut Tonewood -Side input jack (like lp) -Ebony board I have a chance to trade my explorer for one, and am quite tempted. ![]()

Re: Gibson "THE SG"
It was considered the budget SG. They sold for $499 or something like that. There was an ad floating around with pic.'s of it on the forum some time ago.

Re: Gibson "THE SG"
I own it's cousin, a 1978 Gibson "The Paul". It was my first real guitar and still plays/sounds great. Stock T-Top pup's as well. Slightly darker tone, however, the SG version may be a little brighter. The can be found for around $800 to $1200 these days depending on condition.

Re: Gibson "THE SG"
Assuming "The SG" is in the same league as "The Paul", it's a tone machine...Play it if you can, see what you think. A lot of "The Pauls" got used in recording studios because of their great playability and sound- sort of an early cross between the LP Special and the yet to be devised LP Studio. I have little doubt The SG is the same...
Ought to al least check it out - there are probably not too many of them around for sale. mark

Re: Gibson "THE SG"
i got one!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() it has earned the title of "workhorse" in my collection. like someone mentioned they are similar to the "faded" series of today. I bought it because it was the interesting tonewood combo of walnut/ebony. SOLID, SOLID guitar. pretty chunky neck too. fortunately/unfortunately, i bought mine as a HUSK, meaning i had to piece it together coz im a cheapass. ![]() incase anyone cares to check it out, here is MY thread: NGD! "The SG"
