First Post! Melody Maker Les Paul Mods!

Here we have a 2003 Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker in TV Yellow.
Didn't like the p90, so swapped in a GFS Fat Mini in a mangled p90 shell.
Also swapped out the white button tuners for some Grovers.

Threads are useless without pics, so here are some really awful ones from my sad, lonely, and dejected cellphone camera.

Enjoy the pr0n!

Re: First Post! Melody Maker Les Paul Mods!

Honestly, the GFS fat mini sounds very similar to the p90 that was originally there, but with no hum. Compared to the p90, it's slightly rounder and more clear, and doesn't have as much growl (which is what I was looking for, that p90 was just unconditionally angry). For the price point, I'm completely happy with it. However, In the future I'd want to try a Duncan antiquity or a Rio Grande Babybucker.

I need to find a single cut semi hammered MM for a project.
The more I see these, the more I want one.
I bet it would be a great player!

They play really nice with a good setup, and at this price you don't have to worry about choppin' em up for crazy mods. Around me. used single coil MM's can go as low as 250 on craigslist.

Nice guitar. The minibucker in a dog ear P-90 shell is a unique look.

Re: First Post! Melody Maker Les Paul Mods!

It was the only way to get something else to fit without having to add more holes or take out / fill chunks of wood. It turned out to be really, really easy. I've heard that original bill lawrence humbuckers will fit the p90 footprint as well, but I figured the mini would be the safest bet.

Looks real nice.

I kept the P90 in mine, but added a Junior pickguard

Unsung Gems these guitars IMO!

I'm actually glad I'm broke right now, because that would be too tempting otherwise. I do not need another humbucker equipped guitar!
