Midtown Custom
I'm considering purchasing a Midtown Custom with the Heritage Cherry. How will the sound of this compare to my Les Paul that has classic 57 pickups? Is it dumb to consider purchasing this if I already have a Les Paul?

Re: Midtown Custom
Wow, the second question you pose is way too subjective to get a good answer here. The first is easier. I think the Burstbuckers are hotter than the 57s, distort easily and offer a more aggressive, growling tone. I really like the Burstbuckers I played in a Vintage Mahogany LP, which as a chambered guitar is very similar to the Midtown (but lacking f-holes, of course).
The best way to find out is to play your LP through your amp for 30-60 minutes on your favorite settings. Then unplug the guitar, take the amp to the store, and plug in the Midtown without touching any setting (except the master volume). You'll immediately hear/feel/see the difference in the two guitars and be better able to tell if it's worth the money to have the Midtown. Peace Rex |

Re: Midtown Custom
I don't think it's dumb....
I would describe the sound of the Midtown Custom somewhere between an ES-335 and a Les Paul

![]() I am getting some very different sounds out of my Midtown. Having said that, I am using the tone controls a lot to capture a different tone to my Les Pauls. I especially find the bridge pick up to be "hotter" than the Les Pauls. Love the guitar as well - had mine just over a week and am amazed by the quality and sounds for the price.

Re: Midtown Custom
Good description of tones.Sure you can get some decent LP tones , and some good 335ish tones from the neck pu.I would say more aggressive tones than a 335 .If you use the tone knob alot ,you can get a wide range of tones .
