Re: Double creams on an SG?

The only time Ive ever seen once was Matt "Guitar" Murphy in the Blues Brothers, but I can't find any good pics or clips online. I have thought of trying it out on my SG, maybe if I can come across some nice dual creams I'll try it out

Re: Double creams on an SG?

There must have been SGs in the early 60's that ended up with some of the cream bobbins from late 59 and 60.

I found one on another forum earlier, but it turned out to have Dimarzios in it. Looked kinda cool, actually. Would look better with PAFs though!

Re: Double creams on an SG?

I saw a SG in natural burst finish with double creams a while ago on the net. Best looking thing I've ever saw.

C Squared, tolm, cooljuk and 1 others like this.

I'm sure there are still a lot of sg's from the seventies still around that were upgraded with demarzio super distortion double creams

That natural burst SG looks really sharp.

Found a pic online (not mine).

Re: Double creams on an SG?

I put creams in a naturalburst SG once. I also think they look great in black SG's, especially since they have cream binding (as opposed to white).

Will you believe that's the picture I was talking about when I said it's the most beautiful thing I've seen?

Ya, that is really nice looking!

Man, the coils on the bridge PU are fully exposed above the PG! You could almost swap magnets mid-song if you wanted to.

I had them in my 79 SG back in the day. I don't have the SG anymore (traded it away many years ago) but I still have the double cream Dimarzios. I have them in my Epi LP CSB Standard right now giving it the 'Ace' look.

Not as nice as above, but here's two of my own winds in a SG. Double cream in the bridge.

Too funny. Those were WCR Godwood/Crossroads pickups. I sold the guitar a long time ago to a guy on the ESP boards named MontyJay, and I'm pretty sure he sold it off long ago as well.

yea SG's have a pretty steep break going on, same with V's. If you raise the pickups up close (like I prefer them), then they just stand tall. I added pickup rings to my V to eliminate that. Also helps make the pickup more flush with the strings because the break is so steep one coil ends up being closer than the other.

Re: Double creams on an SG?

Ya, I'm going to put some taller rings on my SG, like the M69 rings were. Duncan rings are about the same size as those. I like the look better that way, but it's probably good for stability of the PU and protecting the exposed bobbins too.
