Hey everyone. Im am from germany and I have a 76 explorer too and was wondering about one little thing. It is a real 1976, not reissue, All parts tuners, pickup case anything are originals even the norlin hangtags and so one. Nothing has been changed. The gitare has the Made in USA, EXPLORER, not Limited Edition , and Serial number on the back of the headstock and a secund mark. Please, is anybody able to help? What is here the differece? One little thing to the end. The gitare in verry light. Only approximate 3,6 kg on my bathroom scale. Thanks an have allway a good sound. ![]() JEDI

Re: explorer 76 NO LIMITED EDITION
If your question is why is it marked as a second or 2nd they used to do that to guitars that had minor flaws but after many years it is hard to see what the flaw was.
Gibson used to do that so dealers would not sell the guitar for full price I think. |

Re: explorer 76 NO LIMITED EDITION
Thanks for willcome,
For detailed explanation . It is not the secund mak on the headstock .it is the text „EXPLORER“ instead „Limited Edition“ on the back of the headstock. The probing question is why is my guitar signed with „explorer“ and the most of them with „Limited Edition“. So wat is here the differece? Thats the question. On this place : sorry for my bad english. Thanks for support. I hope someone can help. Take a luck on my pictures! |

Re: explorer 76 NO LIMITED EDITION
The 2 on your guitar means it is a second.
The reason they call today's Explorers in Natural color "Limited Edition" is that Gibson does not make that color year round, they make "Limited" quantities in batches. Of course there are differences between your Explorer and modern day Explorers like the pickups, tuners and neck profile. Current Gibson USA Explorers are based on the 1976 body shape/pickguard. That is why sometimes you will see them referred as "Explorer 1976" The original 1958 Explorer was not as pointy. |

Re: explorer 76 NO LIMITED EDITION
1) It's a second.
2) Don't worry about it. 3) Gibson went "Limited Edition" crazy in 1976. Don't feel inadequate! |

Re: explorer 76 NO LIMITED EDITION
A "second" means a minute finish flaw that sometimes isn't even detectable. After a few years of use it's a moot point anyway.
