Gibson Custom Shop CS-356 Appreciation
Hey MLP, this is my first thread! I would always frequent this website for info, so I thought, hey, why not join?!
About a year or so ago I was on the market for a Gibson Custom Shop guitar, and being a lefty, most of them went for too much money. I stumbled across a one-off (I didn't even know what that meant back then) Gibson Custom Shop CS-356 in translucent black. I remember one about a year prior to this going for about $3,000 (I guess being a lefty made a hot-ticket item). They guy wanted $2,100 as a starting bid. Well, needless to say, it was love at first sight; I HAD to have this guitar, but there was no way I could win it if it went up to $3,000-ish. I shot him an offer to end the auction early for $2,200 - and he took it! I'm convinced I got a decent deal, especially because it's a lefty, but even if it wasn't a good deal, who cares! This guitar loves to be played! I'm never going to sell it - it's my go-to guitar for every gig my band does. Hands down, the BEST guitar I've ever play (and one of the prettiest if I don't say so myself)! Some people over at the Les Paul Forum were actually talking about my very guitar. It was for sale at a California Guitar Center, somehow made it's way from owner to owner to Virginia, and then I bought it here in North Carolina. Pretty cool how I was able to track it down! They were all saying that they had wished they pulled the trigger on it when it was at GC... oh well... MINE NOW! Below are some pictures of her (Victoria), but let's see some other 356's! ![]() ![]()

Thanks Brian! She is different for sure! I hadn't seen many Gibsons with that finish; probably why it stuck out to me so much. Thanks again!

Yeah, I was one in the hunt for that one when it was at the GC but it was sold before I could get to it. Interesting story about it getting passed along eastward. Congrats and enjoy it! Never say never, and PM me if you do need to move it ...

No kidding! Do you happen to remember what GC wanted for it? I've always been curious...
