Binding ridges - normal?
So I just my new SG Classic Faded in the mail today, and the playability and sound are top-notch, definitely worth the price. Overall QC is very good with one glaring exception: On the low E side, the neck binding is narrower than the wood underneath from the nut to the 3rd fret.
Here are some pics. Sorry for the size, I need to figure out how to use imgur better... Middle of the neck, fine: ![]() Near the nut, see how it's not flush? ![]() ![]() ![]() I should point out that playability isn't affected, and at the deepest point, it's less than a mm off. It's just that I can feel it and it's kind of annoying. I'm guessing this is the result of over-scraping the lacquer off the binding, and I've heard on old Gibsons (like in the 50s), this wasn't uncommon. Anybody else experience this? Could this be considered an exchange-worthy flaw? |

Re: Binding ridges - normal?
I can't tell form your pics too well. But I'm guessing it's the ridges from the plek machine. My LP Traditional has very fine ridges down the binding and across the fretboard, but I don't really feel it.

Re: Binding ridges - normal?
Consensus on H-C is that it was overzealous scraping of the binding that gouged out some of it, so the wood juts out. I've taken it back to be exchanged, waiting for a hopefully flawless guitar now...
