failbird, fireturd, pick one. they both apply equally.

I think you are over qualified to work at Gibson, your design has more useful gimmicks then the Failbird X

REDOLUTION!? THAT'S THE NAME OF THE FINISH!?

Why didn't they just call it the Gibson Revolution instead of pissing on the Firebird model?

Re: New Gibson Firebird! What's your opinion?

Of course, the best part of being a narcissist like Henry is he can sit and read all of this.. and say "They dont' get it, I'm ahead of the curve" and ignore the rest. If it doesn't sell, it's because it was too brilliant. If it does sell, it proves his brilliance.

His outfit sort of says it all "Hey, I'm a regular guy, just like the rest of you. I'm cool, I wear denim and pop my collar. Look how in touch with you I am".

This is a guy who sits up at night masturbating to pictures of Steve Jobs, but misses the point entirely.

Smashing the SG sent a message to his employees that their hard work doesn't matter. It sent a message to the world that he doesn't care about our natural resources. Every working guitar player out on the road earning $400 a gig trying to figure out how they're going to replace the guitar that some local tech just sold, and every kid saving pennies for their first Gibson were told how insignificant they are. I know plenty of working guitar players who have applied for Gibson endorsements, that have been declined because they don't get 1 million impressions a month.. who all would have killed for that guitar. He couldn't be more out of touch with the things in this world that matter. That guitar was a tree, and he wasted it.. not for art, but to play some ****ed up rockstar fantasy out on stage.

Re: New Gibson Firebird! What's your opinion?

Reading around the Gibson site...it does seem interesting;
The heel is shaved for upper fret access and the neck volute is back...while it may not be pretty, it's for the better.
The nut is akin to a graphite one, the bridge has piezo saddles and the pickups are programmable...all these details seem like good things in terms of performance and versatility.

The rest though, with the effect sliders and the wireless pedals, etc...it seems too bloated.
Perhaps in a studio situation, this guitar would come in handy. Less things to occupy space.

Re: New Gibson Firebird! What's your opinion?

I predict he will step down within 12 months from the the negative response of this failed PR scheme. It will be something like 'He needs to slow down, health reasons, blah. blah. blah. I have a hard time believing there were not some VIPs at Gibson that thought this was a bad idea. The begining of the end for Henry.

bravo! well said

the funny thing is everything about that guitar from design to how it was presented was tested on focus groups, who are gibson talking to to get responses that made them think any of this travesty was a good idea.

of course i could be wrong and one day in the far future there will be a vintage fireturd x sub forum here on mlp with people arguing that the 2010 fireturd x is better that the 2060 fireturd x and the old plastic vs. new plastic.

Re: New Gibson Firebird! What's your opinion?

I'm not knocking the innovations (we must remember that Lester himself was an innovator and was under appreciated for years) but this hype-filled, tacky, and corny presentation was just uncalled for. Henry smashing an SG and calling the naysayers "Luddites" was cruel and unusual punishment.

On second thought, was that a REAL SG he smashed, or a dummy mock-up made for this silly exhibition? Either way, very dumb idea.
