Re: how would a es- 335 sound for metal
ES-333 with Seth Lovers > old Johnson J-Station on Recto setting > direct to Soundblaster > recorded with stock windows wav recorder = metal
Recording is fine, but you'll have to deal with major feedback if playing for real. ES333_Recto.mp3

Re: how would a es- 335 sound for metal
Yeah, I think feedback has more to do with your proximity to your amplifier than anything, as far as semi-hollow bodies are concerned. I've gigged with a 335 Dot Deluxe with Duncan '59s(as a second guitar for Dropped-D) for the past two years and haven't heard so much as a single squelch.
However, fully-hollow bodied guitars(both electric and acoustic) tend to squeal like a stuck pig when played at club volume or higher. I had to retire my Kingston fully-hollow bodied electric when we started playing bigger shows. |

Re: how would a es- 335 sound for metal
I once mentioned this on another guitar forum and got laughed out of the place, mostly because I knew such an obscure fact but also because some people just don't think 80s metal was real music. Anyway, I read that Wolf Hoffmann of Accept used an ES-335 in the studio extensively. He was known for playing Flying Vs and such in the 80s, and stated that he only did that on stage to look more metal. The album sound however, had a lot of ES generated tone. So yes, you can do it. You might not look as "metal" though.

I also use a Les Paul (Standard and/or Classic) but depending on how the set list goes that night, I'm comfortable using the 339 on any of those tunes if I don't feel like swapping guitars back and forth. Having said that, I'm using an ES-339 which I'm not sure how that compares to a 335. I'm sure it can't be that different. As I also said in that post, I watched Dave Grohl for over 2 hours, and the only time he took off the DG-335 was when he was playing acoustic. |

Re: how would a es- 335 sound for metal
You could tweak it, change pups, lots of options to make an 335 sound metal.
But, I dont know that a metal player would want too. That's a HUGE bodied axe to shred / bang your head too. Personaly, I'd like to see it happen! |

Re: how would a es- 335 sound for metal
I would not disagree with you, but Da Nuge is kinda pre-metal, and did in fact play HARD f--kin' ROCK!
