Epiphone Supernova

Anybody has one? I recently discovered it, didn't even knew it existed... It's a Noel Gallagher's signature model.

Re: Epiphone Supernova

They don't make them anymore but they're basically a Sheraton II. Pointless sig as Noel never actually played one..

Re: Epiphone Supernova

Noel did play this version, especially back in the days.

There you go:

Now it probably ain't an Epi, but the guitar is basically the same.

EDIT:

it even IS an epiphone if I ain't wrong

It is an Epi but they are very different guitars. The one Noel played was an original Sheraton with a Union Jack paint job. It has mini humbuckers as opposed to the normal humbuckers on his sig. It also had the frequensator tailpiece while the sig has a stoped tail piece.

Re: Epiphone Supernova

The Complete Noel Gallagher (Oasis) Gear Guide| Dolphin Music
Quote:
Some might say it's a Epiphone Riviera, but they are wrong...the headstock gives the clue: it's a 60's Epiphone Sheraton alright. Unlike the new Sheratons, the 60s version looked very similar to the 60's (and to the most recent) Riviera, as both featured frequensator tailpiece and mini-humbuckers. It was a present from then girlfriend Meg Matthews, and customized by a London luthier.

Maybe most of you realize this, but some might not: It's worth noting that Noel Gallagher's signature guitar, the Epiphone Supernova, is an entirely different thing from the Union Jack guitar he played at Maine Road, and we've found no evidence he's ever played it. He just posed with it. The guitar - excellent as it is, by all accounts - is just an expensive piece of merchandise...and quite different than the original Union Jack guitar: the Supernova has stoptail bridge and humbuckers, as opposed to frequensator and mini-humbuckers, making it closer to the Epiphone Sheraton II or the 70s Epiphone Riviera.

Hope it helps

I haven't played one but they're supposed to be really nice guitars to play. I'll never understand why epiphone didn't just do a proper sig.

Re: Epiphone Supernova

Hey SlashGallagher

is there any way to reproduce the sound that Noel/Oasis make using something like guitar rig?

I've checked the post with the gear but translate it in a preset is quite a mess

Re: Epiphone Supernova

Well, I love Oasis and I do have a custom painted Tele and a Riviera (with the Gallagher correct tailpiece)

If I saw the Supernova for a good price I would snatch one up for sure.

Can you give me any info on that Riviera? I really am starting to get interested in them, and I'm trying to figure out when they were made. I know they were made in the USA in the 60s, Japan in the 70s and early 80s (?), and I believe there were some from the 90s but I'm not sure what country manufactured them.

Thanks for any help. Yes this is a bit off topic, but oh well

Well, mine is a 1996 model made in Korea. It's very nicely built but I think the stock pickups are horrible in it. I bought it because it was a great deal and I thought it looked cool and as a bonus , Nick from the Strokes uses a 1990s model Riviera. He put Gibson P94 pickups in his and I want to do that also some time.

Valensi was the reason I asked for the info

I've been on a Strokes obsession lately, and I'm trying to find out as much about his gear as I can.

If I ever find a Vintage Sunburst Riviera from the 90s I might just have to jump on it.

Also I would definitely throw in some P94 pickups. If you can't afford them (I think they might be over $100 for each pickup now ) GFS pickups makes two different P90 sized humbuckers you might want to try out. Just a suggestion

Thanks a lot for the info.

for your enjoyment then, I will post a couple more pics of my guitar.

and don't forget this for the Strokes' fans

Sorry for the Hijack of Riviera content but it turns out Noel's guitar is technically a Riviera....yes?

Valensi uses mainly a Riviera with P94īs(desides that a Les Paul Custom and a Telecaster), a Jekyll&Hyde pedal, a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe(at the beginning) and now a Carr Slant 6V amp....

While we're talking about Rivieras, has anyone ever run across this one? It looks like a fake.. I can't say I remember any Rivieras with a bolt-on neck.

Well I don't think it is a Riviera, but if you google Epiphone EA-250 you find a ton of these.

Edit: Yes, it appears it is part of the "EA-Series" (ya learn something new everyday): http://epiphonewiki.com/index.php?title=EA-Series
