Wow.... $2k for a toggle switch ring

This can't be serious... I know historic LP's are very valuable, but is this for real?

Yes, but how do you verify the date/age of the thing??? It's not like buying a guitar with serial numbers.

I sent the seller a message asking how he could prove the age of it. Curious to see what his response will be.

I have never had any luck ever getting a response from this seller in the past other than "please call".

Re: Wow.... $2k for a toggle switch ring

It's real, guys. If you do not understand the vintage parts market, it will confound you. Certain parts, like creme toggle rings(which can easily be identified to the experienced eye) and humbucker mounting rings, were only used on Les Pauls from that period(with a lap steel or so tossed in).

Rare = expensive.

To just call it a piece of plastic is not correct. That's like calling a first run Mickey Mantle baseball card a piece of cardboard.

If you are not in that market, judging those that ARE is unfair.

You ARE entitled to your opinion, I am just trying to clarify for those that do not understand. Those that will refuse to understand will always be that way.

I will take a recent era used one, scratch it up, get it dirty, throw it in the micowave for a few seconds... and sell it for $500.00.
Buy from me and SAVE $$$$$

Re: Wow.... $2k for a toggle switch ring

When somone wants to knock off 5K or more from the purchase price because a vintage guitar is missing a part, and is no longer "all original".
2K is a small investment to make the extra 3K.

When things are rare and "collectable" it is a whole new ballgame.

What Greg and Fuzzy said. If you have a guitar that needs this type of part, and have the money available, it's usually stupid NOT to buy.

Same here. It fall into perspective if you knock a few zeros off of both the '58 that needs it & the toggle ring.

But if it's off of a '58 is that one being parted out?

Re: Wow.... $2k for a toggle switch ring

Thanks for the input guys. Like many others, I'm learning about the "Les Paul World".

I've been involved with Beretta Handguns for years, and know first hand how much the right buyer is willing to pay due to rarity. I've turned around guns with nearly 100% profit in two days, because I was in the right place a the right time.

While I personally am not into the "historic" guitars, I can definately appreciate them.

Just a side note... the local guitar center has a stratocaster (60's vintage I think), all original, for $50K!!! One of those "Guy bought it for his son and it got stashed in the attic for 35 years" stories. Amazing!

I imagine that if I had the money, I would find vintage guitar collecting much more appealing...

Re: Wow.... $2k for a toggle switch ring

I run into this shit all the time looking for parts for my 67 fastback.

It goes like this.

me: I need a lap belt for an old ford.
junkyard: Yeah I have one. Five bucks and it's yours.
me: FOr a 67 Mustang?
junkyard: Oh wait.............yeah I have it but its fivehundred dollars.
me: WTF?

Or well somthing like that. baseball cards car parts guitars it's all the same. But some of this stuff is just to much.

Word..................

The "plastic" pickup rings from that era go for about $15 large a pair.If you are restoring a $500,000 burst, that ain't a bad investment.
I've often thought about selling the ring off of my conversion. If the guitar was original,no way---but I could use another great amp,and I never got too much tone out of the ring (LOL).
