Why buy a '59 for that much, when you can buy a new one for 2-3k?

Re: 1959 Gibson Burst

Law of supply and demand. Rich collectors will pay that kind of money.
Those guitars aren't really geared to sell to players, unless they're rich too.

Ridiculous price, agreed.

Re: 1959 Gibson Burst

that is a down payment on a beach house in Florida. I think the beach house definitely will get you more laid than an old guitar.

Come on! Its vintage, collectable, and an investment... there are 100 0more reasons man!

I think its silly money, but frankly, if I was rich, I'd sure buy it. Why not if you can?!

Hell yeah!

This one really reminds me of the one in "SpinalTap":

"The sustain...listen to it."
"I don't hear anything."
"Well...you would though...if it were playing."

Re: 1959 Gibson Burst

Buying a nice house in florida, oceanfront is also a nice investment. And you can't accedently drop it on the floor, and having it break on you...

It's now 550K.....must have been a type at 450k C'mon that's just phishing for an idiot. The market is DOWN right now, not up......and unless celebrity owned they weren't getting 400k when the market was up. That's a 275k-300k burst tops. Still alot of jack, but about half what they're "asking" for it.

You think
275k-300k show me one at that price

in 2009 It would not surprize me if this guitar will be worth 1M

Re: 1959 Gibson Burst

Flick, are we talking Dirk Ziff prices or everyone else? 1mm in 09? NO WAY unless this is celebrity owned like the Green burst, etc. If you've got 300k to spend, call Ganzler, Margoff (spelling), etc and they can find them for you. Perfect and without any issue? Not necessarily. Nice and original? Sure.

Re: 1959 Gibson Burst

Hey, I think this guitar is really stupid at $15,000, even more stupid than a $550,000 Les Paul:

EVH GUITAR FRANKENSTEIN REPLICA VAN HALEN FENDER RELIC - eBay (item 110218670355 end time Feb-02-08 17:00:34 PST)

I'm currently wearing a $4,000.00 MSRP Rolex that some of you may think is crazy...it isn't even gold and doesn't tell time as accurately as a $30 Casio ..... I own several fountain pens worth $500 that don't even write as well as a $5.00 rollerball....you guys play $5,000 Gibson historic guitars that may not play better than a $2,000 standard.... And is a $2,000 standard really worth that much?

I guess what I'm saying is that we are all crazy....The only difference is how much money you have in your bank account to go crazy with.

Re: 1959 Gibson Burst

1 Mill for a guitar that sounds the same as a regular guitar that you can purchase now. There is no way someone will buy that, unless they are Bill Gates and that was the only '59 left. And even then He would be smarter to buy a new one, and donate the rest to charity. (Just waits for someone to make a refrence to vintage muscle cars)

Says who, you? Tried that one or a few more originals?
*Some* original 50s LPs are THE holy grail. And they DO sound different. Probably in a non replicable way. And I did try.

It's a collector's piece. There's nothing to rebel about this price. Accept it and rest in piece. It's not for us common mortals alright, but why contesting? It's really the law of supply and demand.

These were fine instruments made back then. Now being replicated with great results. But if you really think that "that sound can be replicated by a regular guitar purchased now" you know not what you're talking about. And know little or nothing about the history of rock and roll which a few guitars like the one up above, concurred into shaping up.

Peace.

Wish I could'a said it like that.I just think it's amazing that we've got someone of Richards standing on this forum to talk about and show us
original Vintage guitars of this magnitude.

Same!
Especially for a guy like me who dug into this for years. With little or no information. Now the info keeps coming up. It's a blessing.

Not being able to afford a guitar doesn't make us less than others who can.
Nothing to fear. Just admire, study it, get info about it, store it, review it and play lots our guitars!

We sold a similar guitar for over $400k last month that was nowhere as nice as this one. where are you getting your prices from?

It's the US economy that's 'down' not the burst market.
