My "New" 1982 LPC

I'm going to show off my new toy, a 1982 Les Paul Custom. The seller claims that the guitar was in storage since January 1983, the same month that the guitar was purchased. From the pics, It obviously had the wrong case and warranty paperwork, but that didn't concern me too much. My first job was for a music store, and we frequently gave people the wrong cases on display model guitars (oops). First thing I noticed was that it had virtually no fret wear, no yellow binding, and absolutely no wear on the gold hardware. It looks too clean to me, I'm still worried that it's a fake - cause my babied 96 standard looks like an old whore compared to this guitar.
I have a gallery here, too keep the bandwidth off this site:
http://www.installerassist.com/archive/82_lp/
I'd like to hear any feedback you might have on my new toy. I paid a little over 2k for it, and I don't think I could have found a similar axe for any cheaper.
Thanks for viewing!

I am no expert but wouldn't that still have a maple neck in 82?

Legit or not it is really nice.

Shadowshady, I'm no expert either. What neck does it look like I have, I dunno.

Re: My "New" 1982 LPC

The neck and the non-volute headstock is consistent with the year of your LPC..... She's legit

Great find!!!

I don't know if an '82 should still have a maple neck, but it sure is a 3 piece, Norlin era neck.

Congrats, man! It sure looks like it's been in storage since it has been purchased.

Re: My "New" 1982 LPC

-=[Shifty]=- your the second person to mention the maple neck, so I'm interested in more info, if anyone has it. Wikipedia mentions Gibson going to maple necks for Norlin era, but doesn't give a specific date range. I gotta admit ignorance, I couldn't tell maple from mahogany, I don't know what to look for.

I really don't know, sorry. I couldn't even find anything about it in the Norlin FAQ.
(Unless I've missed something, just skipped through it.)

FAQ: Norlin History

Re: My "New" 1982 LPC

ah, the FAQ - I should have checked there first. Of course, it doesn't mention when they changed back, but it does say 85 was the end of the 3-piece.

From the FAQ: 1975 - necks change to maple, short tenon introduced, Nashville plant starts building LPs in conjunction with Kalamazoo. Serial number changes to decal.

Re: My "New" 1982 LPC

82 Customs certainly do have 3-piece maple necks, and that Custom you've got there is real,,,,,,,,,,,,, and sweet! Good luck.
