My "new" Norlin 1980 Custom

Here it is. Couldn't be happier with it. Maybe it belongs in the "ugly duckling" thread, but it just sounds so beautiful and I like the finish. Kinda beat up, but I think it's awesome. Sorry about the lame pics. I guess there's a bit of an art to it.

I think the early 80's were a good time for Gibsons generally.

Welcome to the club..No way is that an ugly duckling..

I think were going to be seeing many more Norlin owners in the near future.. Seems like the more the word gets out about how good they actually are, the more people snatching them up. The down side is that leaves less for me..

Ugly Duckling? Are you kidding? That thing is beautiful. Great color, nekked pups look great, do you know what they are? Congrats!

How does it sound? I see you have one of those BlackHeart amps.

Re: My "new" Norlin 1980 Custom

Hey, thanks for the responses. The more I play it the more I dig it! It is awesome and I love that neck.

The pups are SD JB in the bridge and a SD SH-3 (a Stang thang or something like that.) The sound is awesome and it's also coil-tapped so I can get a weirdly single coil sound that actually works great.

thanks again and it's great to be in the LP club finally. I waited way to long.

Re: My "new" Norlin 1980 Custom

i know this is a really old thread but im interested in potentially buying a used '80 Custom but dont really know much about their specs...can anyone give me an indication of neck profile, woods (pieces, type), p'ups, etc?

i play mostly blues/blues-rock (clapton, zep, etc.) and prefer a creamy, overdriven sound rather than overly distorted or soldano like distortion. is the Custom model (norlin and current production) a good fit for this or is it better suited for metal and harder rock?

lastly, what would be a good price range for a very good condition '80 Custom in a fairly rare color (im guessing 1800-2500???)?

thanks!

Congrats. I'd like a Wine Red Custom someday.
