Who smashed this ...
I saw this in the 'Victoria & Albert Museum' in London last Saturday ...
Apologies for the poor quality but flash was impossible.

Shameful. I love Townshend, but it makes me want to weep for that poor guitar.
BCRGreg, care to take a crack at it?

Re: Who smashed this ...
Hmmm, I wonder how many more vintage SG's would still be around if not for Pete Townsend?

Re: Who smashed this ...
Immediately I knew PT was the culprit! Those modified Deluxe are typical of him. How many (and SG's too) has he destroyed in the course of his career? I always felt a little sad to see a guy destroy a perfectly good guitar most of us couldn't afford...
Interesting fact: When the Who were beginning their career, PT and the gang would smash equipment at the end of a show and later that night or the next morning there would be a crew member repairing what he could to get ready for the next show!

Re: Who smashed this ...
PT at least smashed the real stuff (as sad as that is).
Even though I'm a long time Kiss fan, getting a cheap copy out to smash at the end of a song is pretty lame. Total impact..... 0/10 Cheers, AuMo.

Re: Who smashed this ...
I recall reading somewhere when Pete was asked why he switched from SG's to the modded
LP's he told the interviewer that he "broke all the good ones" |

Jimi destroyed a lot of stuff too. But Pete was the king in that department. |

Re: Who smashed this ...
Personally, I'd rather see a cheap shitty guitar smashed than something good like a Gibson or a fender. Pete smashed a lot of guitars. I always thought it was funny that he'd have his tech actually go to the bother of routing for the middle pickup only for the guitar to be smashed up.

Re: Who smashed this ...
He destroyed tons and tons and tons of guitars. I know tho his roadies sometimes would go back and get pieces and whole guitars back from the crowd. His Woodstock SG was recovered minutes later by a roadie.
