Super Distortion in bridge...pair it with Dimarzio PAF, or PAF Pro?

Looking to get a good classic heavy rock Les Paul sound. Popping a Super Distortion in the bridge position, but for the neck what's the pros and cons of a Dimarzio PAF Pro vs. Dimarzio PAF?

I also hear Air Norton is good in the neck, but not in muddy guitars. idk.

p.s. I know Ace Frehley had a Super Distortion with a Dimarzio PAF in the neck slot, but heard he never used the neck.

I paired mine with a 36th anniversary PAF, love the sound but I dont think you can go wrong.

If you are going after "classic" then I would recommend the Dimarzio PAF.
Back in the '70s, that was the most common pairing.
Of course, there weren't a lot of options either.

The Super Distortion/PAF combo is the cookies and cream of the seventies.

I heard you can get any sound with any pickup and amp combination.
Work the knobs, play with your pedals.

It matches very well with a PAF

if you are into cranked Marshall-type-of-music:
Superdistortion for bridge, and 36th PAF for neck = WINNING!

I have a Standard with DP-100's in both neck and bridge! That guitar SCREAMS.

Having a DP-100 in the neck gives you that slightly rounded smooth tone for leads and can clean up nice if you roll off the volume and tweak the tone knob.

Possibly a narrow focus guitar, but for rock, it is a pretty exciting set-up

Thanks for opinions. I will likely obtain the Dimarzio PAF to match with the Super Distortion.

I was offered up a 1980's neck position Gibson Dirty Fingers pickup (has 2 rows of height adjustment screws) I don't have any knowledge on these, or how this would pair up with a Super Distortion. Any thoughts?

DF are VERY loud and aggressive pickups.... Probably not what you are looking for in a neck pickup.

80's DF pickups bring big $$$$

Re: Super Distortion in bridge...pair it with Dimarzio PAF, or PAF Pro?

I have a 70s DiMarzio PAF in the neck, and had a 70s Super D in the bridge ( previous owner probably an Ace fan). I ended up pulling the Super D and installing a 36th Anni. I prefer this, but don't play an amp loud enough to appreciate the Super D.

I think the biggest consideration for you is how flexible you need to be in blending the two pickups, and switching tone between/during songs.

Go with whatever your gut tells you is your first choice. You're not forced to keep it in there forever. Get one, play it. Take the time to explore what you can do with the one you settle on.
