'73 Goldtop Deluxe

Someday I will drop some P90's into this. She's in pretty good shape as she prepares for her 40th anniversary. I posted a thread on it last year but never proceeded. Thinking it needs a set of Lollars to wake up as it hibernates in the closet. The mini's look cool but they are marginal in the tone dept. It plays like a dream and I suppose if I put new pups in it I would play it more. Had it since '78 and will not let go of it.

Re: '73 Goldtop Deluxe

A real beauty. Could be my 73's twin except for the Grovers and goof-rings. I like the minis but they're not for everyone. To get some real hard-rocking tones, P-90s or even some of the humbuckers built to fit mini routes will do the trick. I love the way mine plays - fast, low action with singing sustain, smooth bends, and excellent note clarity. I'll never let mine go either.

Nice GT!. Personally, I've always loved my mini's, but it's a personal choice of course.

Is it lt possible the mini's were already swapped out? Those look like what they call 'goof rings' around the mini's now.

Re: '73 Goldtop Deluxe

Mini's are original with goof rings. Guitar is 100% stock original except the tuners. The neck pickup is pretty sweet for leads however the bridge pup is not up to par.

Re: '73 Goldtop Deluxe

There is some variation in mini humbuckers and some definitely sound better than others, try an other mini in the bridge position
