Grey wire T top pat. sticker pickups.

Typically T tops had braided 2 conductor lead. But there was a year or so, Gibson used a grey plastic 2 conductor lead. These still had the Pat. # sticker
on the back.
I want to say 74?

By buddy has a pair of these and was asking me about them the other day.

Did they? Or did someone replace the wires?

I believe Dwagar has a 74 LPC which I seem to recall him saying has a T-Top with that gray wiring. Supposedly it's a late 60's pickup.

That'd be strange. Again, I need to see this.

Here is where I saw it, its in the description in his E-Bay ad:
1974 Gibson Les Paul Custom White *Randy Rhoads* | eBay

It states it has a stickered T-Top with plastic insulator. 1969 era.

Re: Grey wire T top pat. sticker pickups.

Ok, here is one from my stash of T tops. My buddy has a pair of these also.
They are uncommon. I once bought a mint 73-74 LP Custom in wine red. It had these
grey wires, and the covers were unsoldered.

It makes me wonder. Maybe they ran out of braided wire for a month or so?

Re: Grey wire T top pat. sticker pickups.

When I bought the one I had, I questioned it on the LPF. It had straight slot screws too. One of the fellows there said they were used around '69.

Maybe the answer is as simple as suggested above, they ran out of the other wire.

Re: Grey wire T top pat. sticker pickups.

I have a pair of Shaws that have red & white wires between the coils. I'm sure it's because they ran out of the black. It costs a lot to shut down a production line.

Re: Grey wire T top pat. sticker pickups.

I have seen some coil split humbuckers with the gray covered four conductor wire and some coil split humbuckers with two of the braided metal wires
