True. Can't go wrong with an R9. I also purchased the '77. Didn't want to miss out on the opportunity to own a good Norlin. I'll know soon enough lol

You're right!

Got the Norlin Les Paul a few hours ago!!!! Took a fast picture for my avi but I'll take better pics tomorrow and post them I absolutely love it. It aged really nicely. Now if only I could find out how it sounds! I have to go get it setup on Monday and then I'll be able to play it. The strings are way overdue to be changed. Stay tuned

Here are two pictures of the '77. Sorry about the lousy quality of the pics.

How do you like it? I've always been partial to Norlin Les Pauls myself.

Had you read the previous posts you would have seen that I apologized for posting in the wrong section. I am new. Why you felt the need to post this comment again........

Re: 1977 Gisbon Les Paul Standard vs. 1996 Gibson Les Paul R9

With either guitar you will want to change the tone cap wiring to '50s style to get more of that vintage Page sound. It is as simple as re-soldering the tone cap lead from the outer lug to the center one on the volume pot for each. This changes the way the controls work and sound. It is how Jimmy's #1 is wired. For a closer tone, get some Russian PIO caps as most of the '50s Les Pauls had PIOs.

Either guitar should be a good player but you will figure out which one feels best to you.

Good luck! Let us know how this turns out!

Re: 1977 Gisbon Les Paul Standard vs. 1996 Gibson Les Paul R9

Cant wait for the comparison, I love my 78 and 79 customs, I have played about 10 different r9's and some R7's and I owned a 68 reissue, and in the end my two norlins won hands down in tone as well as the way they feel and spoke to me.
