NGD, '82 Les Paul Standard
Well, even though I have been a MLP member forever, I finally got my first actual Gibson Les Paul today. And what a way to start out, a sweet 82 Norlin, one piece body, no chambering, 3 piece maple neck, serious players grade, but this thing rocks and feels perfectly broken in, as a well played 30 year old guitar should. I picked this up in a trade with MLP member dewey finn for one of my Hamers plus cash, and I couldn't be more excited. At 44 years old, lets just say its been a long time coming. Fralin PAFs, TonePros bridge and stoptail, Sperzel locking tuners.
And of course, the obligatory pics. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Dang, that is one fine looking burst. It looks almost new...haha!!! unreal. I love those maple necks. It looks so good from behind too. I have an 80 that I truly love. There's nothing like the feeling of an older, well preserved guitar. I was in my 50's when I got my first les paul (last Nov) You're never too old to play
![]() Great purchase!!!!! You must be one happy man. |

Pauls sound very different so I don`t know what effect maple necks have on tone. I do notice a nice bright clarity to the 80 but that may be more related to the Shaw pickups...who knows |

Re: NGD, '82 Les Paul Standard
Thanks all. I got a chance to clean it up the other night, stripped it down, cleaned up the frets/FB with Gorgomyte, (killer stuff,) and cleaned and polished it with Virtuoso's products and then re-strung it with my preference of a top wrap. And man, this baby cleaned up nice!
But aside from all that, she plays beautifully and sounds just as it should. The RS Guitarworks/Fralin PAFs are killer and perfect for this axe. The cleans are full and sweet while the dirty is as good as one could as for. Balance is perfect as well, both tonally and physically. Very happy with my first Lester, much preferred over a shiny new one, at least for me. |
