My 1980 Gold Top Standard.
I retired it in late '03, but i got it out for your enjoyment.
Purchased in early '95 for $900. It's been through some use. In and out of a lot of small bars and large venues. Never abused, just used alot. (i lugged around a studio as a backup, never had to use it) It's had alof of beer spilled on it. Currently on it's: 3rd set of frets (last refret done by the gibson custom shop in 2003) 3rd set of tuners 3rd set of knobs 3rd switch tip 3rd input jack 3rd drill/refill for the strap peg screws 2nd bridge whatever neck pickup it had when i got it - 490R ? 2nd bridge pickup i know of - 498T. 2nd set of pickup rings 2nd set of tone/vol pots original pick guard woody tone, long lasting sustain... plays like butter. hope you enjoy. ![]()

When Gibson did the refret, did they replace the neck binding? It is hard to tell, but it looks as if there are nibs! BTW, that is one SWEET axe!

Re: My 1980 Gold Top Standard.
there's alot of other boring history to this heavy bitch...
if it could talk, i'd be in jail (or just getting out), divorced and some people would want to shoot me. the custom shop did a great job and putting a light finish over the back of the neck to preserve where it was worn to the wood.

Re: My 1980 Gold Top Standard.
I have a 1980 just like it. I put some Stephens Design pickups in it and did a Jonesy wiring upgrade and it is the best sounding Les Paul I have ever had. And I've had a few. Still do. Nice to see my guitar has a sibling out there.

Beautiful!
Time to take it out of retirement! Or at least let it out of it's case once in a while and do some jamming!
