Can I Interest You In A Little Pointy Electro-Acoustic Guitar Action??
It's been a hellava month in acquiring 80s guitars for me, behold it's pointy headstock brilliance.
![]() ![]() What could this be??![]() A Red Kramer Ferrington and purple lined case!!! ![]() Closer body shot. ![]() Neck Plate Shot. ![]() Pointy Headstock. ![]() 12th Fret inlay. ![]() ![]() Laminated neck timber, WTF??? ![]() Side View. Acoustically it sounds like ass, but plugged into an amp, tone on a stick, go figure. ![]() A pretty good guitar and of the type I had way back when just like the Ibanez in my other thread. Rick. |

Yeah, umm, thanks dj.
![]() I like the Fender, reminds me of a guitar a mythical Rockabilly band from the Jetsons would sport. Rick. |

Nah jomo, been waiting patiently for these to finally appear on the bay.
It's been a most excellent last couple of months acquiring guitars of my youth. Rick. |

Re: Can I Interest You In A Little Pointy Electro-Acoustic Guitar Action??
I had the Tele version of that Kramer Ferrington. Mine was even red like yours - identical only the Tele version. I found the electronics to be a little primitive (understandably so) but I agree with you that it has a pretty impressive tone plugged in - massive low end. I liked the feel of the electric guitar neck too. I played around with electric and acoustic strings though. It was designed for electric strings but I think acoustic strings made it sound more authentic. Your results may vary.
Mine wasn't USA though. It was Korean, I believe. I think yours probably is too. If you're familiar with the Kramer story you know that they put the Neptune N.J. plates on every guitar, not just the USA versions. In the long run, tuning and intonation were issues for me. I couldn't really play it live much and feel confident that my next strum would be in tune. I love the look, feel and vibe of those things though. FWIW: the acoustic melody part on the intro of Van Halen's "Dreams" off of the 5150 album was done on on one of the original Ferringtons. Once you're familiar with the tone of those, you can totally hear it. I got mine in Hollywood from a guy who played guitar for Eddie Money. That was pretty cool... Congrats. I hope you enjoy it. (They blow the Tele-coustics and Strat-acoutics out of the water... as long as they stay in tune.)

Didn't know that about the neck plates, I'm guessing you are correct that mine is MIK, the laminated neck would have to be a giveaway. I remember something about using electric strings but I've strung her up with acoustic 12's, sound just fine to me, not that that's anything to go by. ![]() So far no tuning issues, only the usual string stretch you get with new strings, time will tell. Thanks again for the great reply. Rick. |
