Re: Anyone use a 4 way switch with your Tele?
I installed one in a Tele I had a while back. It was great as a quick boosted setting. Nice and fat - almost humbucker like.
If you've ever played a PRS, it's very similar to position 3 on the 5-way rotary (which has two split coils in series).

If you're feeling really adventurous go for a 5 way super switch or even push pull pot to get the out of phase tones! Love those! With that set up you've got the ultimate versatile tele! |

That Tele I mentioned - I had the 4 way and an in phase/out-of-phase toggle in between the volume and tone knobs. Very versatile. BONUS: The out-of-phase middle position had a bit of volume drop and the 4th position added that volume back.

Re: Anyone use a 4 way switch with your Tele?
The 4 way series setting is a nice mod for Tele, but I actually like the 3 position switch better so I wired the middle position of my 3 way to series instead of the stock parallel setting. A lot beefier Tone and I find it easier to get to vs the 4 position switch.
I have had several 4 ways in different Tele's and find it a bit awkward, and the 3 way feels more natural to me but I like the Tone of the series wiring so I thought I would try it on a 3 way switch this time. Series Mod on a 3 Way Switch mp3 Sound clip |

Re: Anyone use a 4 way switch with your Tele?
the 4 position switch rules the world playing loud with overdrive. Its not so useful if you are playing clean or just at home.
The switches are cheap so you have nothing to lose. I would do it to any tele I'd ever buy.

Re: Anyone use a 4 way switch with your Tele?
Ive done mine that way- youre aware of the earth mod required to the bridge pup?
That 4th pos is quite LP actually. I rarely use it, but there is no down side, but for adding to the switching nightmare that is the telecaster. |

Re: Anyone use a 4 way switch with your Tele?
Jonesy - Your diagram shows that the earth connection between neck pup cover and pup itself needs to be severed, and then ofcourse, the new ground added.
Severing the conection on the pup is the mod i was referring to. |

OK, you said "bridge pu" just wondered what you were referring to. I have wired up a lot of these 4 way switches on many Tele's

Re: Anyone use a 4 way switch with your Tele?
I did too. I seem to have some form of bizarre dyslexia with bridge and neck pups- do that all the time. My error, thanks for the correction.

It's all good bro, no worries. I was just wondering if there was some type of "bridge pu mod" I was missing that's all.
