My latest Bass build

Here it is:
a wonderful Warmoth set
body alder surf green 1.87 kg, 4,12 lbs,
neck Jazz Bass maple ebony fretboard, 6105 frets,
Seymour Duncan Antiquity P-bass pickup, Antiquity for P-Bass®: (twin coil) / 11044-11
original vintage reverse Fender tuners, all others are original Fender parts, CTS pots, orange drop cap.
Everything fits perfect, total built took less than 3 hours, and the bass sounds fantastic!!
The whole bass weights 3,9kg, 8,6lbs
The red one is my old one with the nearly exact the same features, also a Warmoth built

Re: My latest Bass build

The red one is also selfsprayed nitro, but the surf green was already painted by Warmoth and was in the showcase and in my opnion real cheap. I've ordered a tortoise pickguard for the green one too. It should come this week, see how it look.
Whre did you buy your parts? I've bought all the parts plastic, screws metal from the music zoo, real nice price!!! In Germany the original Fender stuff is real, I mean, real expensive.
For example, the pickguard from the music zoo is including shipping half the price than anywere here in Germany!!!!

Re: My latest Bass build

My parts body and neck are from ebay UK, they're from the ESP Korean factory shipped to the UK. Im not too fussed about a USA build for the bass but I will be buying and making my own USA Fender licensed Strat next year with all US guts and hardware.

Im probably going to get my bits from here:

Guitar parts spares online -Axesrus

I bought a pearloid scratchplate for my Tele from there, they seem quite reasonable and the plate is good quality, much better than the Fender one that came with it.

The paint I will get from:

Tonetech - Aerosol Lacquer and Paint

This is the look Im gonna go for though I wont have the chrome covers on and the thumb rest will be at the top:

[IMG][/IMG]

I need to get a spray gun and compressor but they're quite pricey any suggestions JoeBonsai or anyone else??

Cheers!!

Re: My latest Bass build

RS has one
RS Guitarworks Online Store
I use this in my bass
Precision Bass wiring harness - VERY EASY TO INSTALL! bei eBay.de: Bass (endet 30.10.09 17:04:38 MEZ)
5 days shipping from US to Germany!!!!

Have you ever tried Seymour Duncan Antiquity, I have the normal 50's split P-bass pickup in both Basses, absolute great sounding pickup. I bought them
JMI Music
aka
eBay Shop - JMI Music: Wir verkaufen SEYMOUR DUNCAN, MERCURY MAGNETICS, TUBES.
very cheap shipping and he gives you a 'repair invoice`,20$ for repairing the pickup, means NO import tax!!!

Re: My latest Bass build

Hey! Thanks for those links, some pretty good stuff there at good prices! The RS kit is quite cheap and worth the wait if 5 days or even 10 days!

I've not tried any pups actually. Ive always played Fender Precisions as they just do the job, tone up or down. The styles i like to play are PiL (Jah Wobble deep dub bass) to Saturday Night Fever album (Its not all rock and metal!!) So a varied bag there!! Oh and a bit of from your country man JS Bachs cello suites for good measure!! Will the antiquities cover that range? I believe the guitar pups are pricey, ive heard that Wilkinson make good pups too, but as I say Im still at the stage of construction.

Thanks

Re: My latest Bass build

For the pickup it's hard to describe, but IMO it's the best sounding passive P-bass pickup, I've had a few other basses with Bartolini, Fender Us-pickups or even with EMG's. The Antiquity has nice deep end, growling mids and a lot of treble, so that you are able to 'play' with the tone pot!!!
I use Seymour Duncan Antiquities in all my instruments 1 Les Paul Std., 1 Les Paul dc junior, 2 P-basses. I've had another LP Std and a Japan Jazz Bass (all with SD Antiquities)
For live gear I use a Line6 POD X3 live, but just the moddeled mixing-channels directly into the PA-system, never had a better bass-sound before. For shure you need a good quality monitor system, but I love it!!!
No more 'heavy-carry-bass-amp-moving'!!!!!!!!!!!
Just the bass and the pedal, perfect!!!

Re: My latest Bass build

I'm definately going to look into the antiquities, the guitar ones really are fantastic and SD's are probably the best pups around. The tone 'Play' is appealing, I like to have my eq set on the amp/head and have the option of bright to dub using the tone. I don't use effects. Though the Pod does have some great sounds of its own!!

I usually use Ampeg heads and cab's for bass as they give the best frequency for rock type music especially when playing around the 12 fret G to A etc on the g string, you get that Entwistle depth and brightness with plenty of a bass bottom end. They're just the best IMO.

I must admit my Pod X3 is the best box ive ever bought for guitar and bass, the amp cloning is perfect, I can't tell the difference. Ive not used it through a PA yet but in time I may do so. I have a Crate Powerblock 150 mini amp and im after a quality 2 x12 for my guitar set up. I'll get this bass done and then look for my cab. Unless...another guitar walks into my life!!

I'd prefer to buy really.. the compressor seems to be the expense the rest is cheap. Just wondered what most of you use, airbrush etc?

I've sprayed paint before, a while ago and got plenty of things knocking about to practice on. Paints cheaper in bulk than individual cans too!
