Re: Squier Classic Vibe 50's or 60's
I assume you mean the strats.
First of all they are both equal in quality, that is to say that they are both really great instruments. The difference between the two are 1. Alnico 3 vs Alnico 5 2. Maple vs. Rosewood 3. 2tone vs 3tone sunburst If you ignore the maple/ rosewood and finish difference, because those always boild down to preferance. You can't really judge these. The Alnico 3s of the 50s are going to produce a brighter and more chimey bell type strat tone. The Alnico 5s in the 60s are more round and punchier in tone. It really depends on what you are looking for in a strat. I have owned 2 CV50s and one CV60s. I still have one CV50s. Personally I prefer the tone of the CV50s

Re: Squier Classic Vibe 50's or 60's
They are both nice , I usually go for a 1 piece maple neck like the 50's has. I do have a few other strats and teles with the maple 1 piece. But I did come across a 60's Squier CV used at a good price so I got it. It is a very nice strat. Can ya play a few examples of each? That would be the thing to do, and get the one you like best.

Thanks for all your feedback,
Sorry I did mean a Strat, the sound I'm after from the guitat is SRV, Jimmy Hendrix, I've been told that the Squier Classic Vibe Strat 60's would be the better of the 2 for this sound anyone agree or disagree?, Im just after any feedback from anyone who owns these before I buy Thanks |

I suggest you check out yogis clips and then simply pick your poison. I don't think you can go wrong with either. After all most of the tone is in the fingers and in the amp.

Doesn't matter which, a good sounding example of either will get ya a close as possible. Takes more than just a strat to sound like those boys. Play a bunch pick the one you like best. And most of us knew ya meant Strat, cause there is no such thing as a 60's Squier CV Tele.

Re: Squier Classic Vibe 50's or 60's
Yogi explained it best. The man knows his strats!
I wouldn't rule out the 50s for a Hendrix/SRV tone. Check out some of Yogi's recent videos doing Little Wing, Wind Cries Mary, Red House, etc. with the CV50s and you'll be convinced the CV50's can do an excellent Hendrix tone too. It all comes down to personal preference. I personally prefer my 50's CV - the biggest factor for me was maple vs. rosewood board, but after having the guitar I've come to really enjoy the brighter A3 pickups. For most people, I think it comes down to color/neck as much as anything. If you want candyapple red, you're not going to get it on the 50's, etc. Try both models if you can. If not, then listen to the youtube demos closely and pick the one that suits you best! |

![]() Ah, well when it comes to youtube clips of Hendrix played on a CV50's, I think Yogi wins! Actually, I think his youtube demo vid is responsible for ALOT of CV purchases out there I shouldn't say this in the middle of a CV love fest, but I'm actually thinking of selling mine Really GAS'in for a sunburst strat. Would love to dull the poly down a bit on mine, maybe even down to the raw wood on the neck. I have a hard time with that super glossy toy like finish. But, it's so perfectly shiny like it is, I know I won't be able to touch it. I'm sure I'll pinch myself and snap back to reality tomorrow and keep the CV! ![]() I have a Monterey Pop strat up for sale...once it sells I should just find myself a beater and a set of CS69's and keep the CV so I can have the best of both worlds. |

Re: Squier Classic Vibe 50's or 60's
IMO and I am no yogi
leave the CV as is untill ya make up your mind on the possible sale. You got it for a great price and should get every penny back. But IMO you may have a hard time doing so with the finish dulled. Idea why not offer it for trade for a sunburst 50's.

I'm sure I could recoup my $ on it no problem, but I'll come to my senses and keep the CV - imho, there isn't a better strat out there for the price. Since my main guitar(s) is my LP and tele, I really don't need anything more than a CV. I think I'll end up picking up a beater cheap strat. Actually, I think I have an old strat neck kicking around. I'd like to have something cheap to knock around and try out some different single coils in just for fun. Now that I have my LP and Tele "perfect" I guess I have the itch to mess around with something. |
